It's true. What's hardcore been doing? Adding some rave stabs. What's DnB been doing? Pendulum. House, techno, trance, they're all basically the same as they've always been. Psytrance seems to be the only genre doing anything with itself. Labels like Iboga, Zenon, Planet B.E.N. and Echoes are producing the only sound that I haven't heard before. Psytrance is moving towards hybidizing itself with house and techno, and is producing just enormous diversity it's insane. On the same label you'll hear stuff that sounds like hard house, funky techno, electro house, minimal techno, sometimes even with a breakbeat at any BPM from 120 to 150. The amount of diversity is insane, and it's unmatched in any other genre. I dare any one of you to show me any labels putting out such extraordinarily diverse stuff in this day and age from any other genre.

Haha that's all I got at the moment I'm afraid, is probably a couple more though. I agree with you though there is massive variation in Psytrance that isn't generally matched by any other genres. Quality music that you could listen to all night and here a very different set from each DJ. How it should be...
IMO you shouldn't get hardcore parties and DnB parties etc. Hardcore/Gabber, DnB, Breaks, Hardcore Breaks, Hard Style/House/Trance, Techno etc. should all be mashed up at the same party, in the same room/s and even in the same sets. The real reason there is so little variety in our music is because it's all been split up by the commercial parties/clubs. As soon as something different is done it's split away from the music it came from and promoted as something completely different.

breakcore is still evolving like hell, powernoise as well... dunno if you'd count those in with EDM though :s

The one thing that makes Psytrance so unmatched is that it comes from alsmost every country. Each country has their own style to put in to it, where as Hardocre mainly comes from Europe (not saying there isnt any artist from other countries). I personally love the dark sounds of psytrance, because the darker stuff is usually faster. I dont think you can say that Psytrance is the only genre moving forward. As long as songs continue to be made of one certain genre, then that genre will continue to move on. If songs stop being made in one certain genre, that genre soons begins to dissapear because people would soon begin to get tired of the same tracks, and that feeling of purpose to gather for that music would end, as nothing new would be made to pursue that purpose. Pretty soon, Psytrance will meet its rut, if it hasnt already, and if it has, there will be many more in the future. And it takes the support from the followers, as well as the creators, to continue moving forward. They work off each other.

well, alot of full on coming out of israel is sounding the same.. alot of people are trying to change the sound, in my opinion, far too much, eskimos latest album has a very large hardhouse/acid influence and even has hoovers in it.. i love my dark psy tho, particularly russian :) and yeah, different regions boast different styles, australia has the largest prog scene, south africa has a huge full on scene with its on harder sound, israel has the biggest full on scene, russia probably has the biggest dark scene.. but yeah its evolving well.

This is "psybreaks" mate - Its generally its own thing!
Psychedelic music ihas always been seen by the mainstream as more of a "style" rather then a genre mate. - and to be fair... thats generally what it is! "a Sound/Style"
i.e. why you'll hear stuff that sounds like "hard house, funky techno, electro house" ect ect
People always seam to moan all the time that "one genre" (psytrance) is still underground
When Psychedelic itself has been used over and over and painted everywhere more then once.
Its like saying "Electro" = "Electro house" - when there 2 completely different things
Electro = A "Style"
Psy Trance, Psybreaks, Psybiant (downtempo) - are all different scenes (and thats to name only a few)
You have a Psychedelic scene in almost all genres - Alot of Freeform (the old stuff atleast) was technically Psychedelic if you like...
But on a whole - i'd agree with you that the "Psychedelic" sound is definitely making more a broad appeal (rather then growing).
Who knows... mabie it will even finally kick the electro sound out the clubs one day. Then we can all expect to get ****ed and dance to this extreme "Mind Music"
