Who on here runs Linux? I was tempted to get Linux but I need reviews on it to see if it's any good. This comic somewhat made me more enthusiastic!

Nice cartoon!
Linux is a very good operating system, but you gotta know how to use it, and if you play lots of games, you'll be sacrificing them. I have a dual boot system, so I can use Linux or Windows.

Theres somewhere a better written intro, but basicly it goes, do you want to use MSN Messenger or send instant messeges, do you want to use Microsoft Word, or write text documents etc. Linux has an alternative to most of the stuff. Only thing is games, for those id recommend still using windows. You can install Ubuntu (you have to know 1 thing before you do that though), you can e.g. make a 5Gb portion of your HDD for the linux, and then it'll have a dual boot system (when you start the computer you have 5 secs to press any button to choose the OS, otherwise it launches the Ubuntu Linux).
Anyway as for Ubuntu, it has the OS, Open Office (opens all MS Office documents too), messenger program (MSN, ICQ etc), Gimp (graphic program), Thunderbird for email and Firefox as net browser (Opera works too, but stupid ****s at Adobe havent made flash to the Linux version yet, e.g. YouTube uses flash, but flash works on Firefox). It also has a shit load of other programs, but those are the main ones.
So it really is upto what you need. I want to play C&C3, use DVD Profiler to catalogue my DVD's etc. For those i still have one (well actually 3) computer with Win XP. With my laptop, which i need to start quickly and do the stuff i want quickly (net, text, excel etc), i use linux. But unlike other OS's, trying or using Linux costs you 0$
I use that Linux distribution:

Okay. So, I use my internet connection for webmessenger, hhc.com, blogging and youtube. I write with word alot to make scripts for my films, and I use a virtual DJ system. I have Windows 2000. Would you suggest with that in mind that I get Linux or Windows XP?

The virtual DJ system might not be available for linux, id check that first. Also you can get both, so you dont really have to choose between the 2.

I've never used Linux - but what i do know is that its an open source platform and only really good if you know a thing or 2 about computers! meaning - computer programming, wed design ect!
All CPU based languages!
^^^ Kinda appeals to me but, I'm in no rush to see what its like.
So to cut it all sort for you...
Windows = Media, Games ect
Mac = Applications! Applications [Whether its graphics, video editing or music - mac kicks ass!]
Linux - Computer programming, web design - hey, even hacking!
So really ^^^ its all down to the user of which is best.
Me? I'd buy a mac and load all 3 onto it :D
Macs are upgradeable hardware wise too (Y) so you can still expand it as a custom DAW :D
