Hi
Just thought I would post this up here for you guys to see what you reckon to my first attempt at creating a tune from scratch. It's done using Reason and Ableton Live. I've only used quite basic patches and percussion as I'm still learning the ins and outs but you get the idea - any comments welcome good or bad. Cheers Carlos

You're pretty new at this obviously so ill help you focus on one point and you build from that.
Before i say anything - there should always be SOME percussion going on. It sounds really empty without it. I think you need a much punchier kick drum. There are some parts where the bass is flat (musically) and it needs to be changing along with the synth thats fading it.
The peak of the track needs to have an underlayer to the melody. To do this, do you notice in the actual melody, there are gaps where there are no notes? You need to fill this. Most of the time the under layer is the same notes as the bass but an octave under the melody, and only where there are gaps in the melody - dont stick notes over each other.
if you can figure out what the HELL i just explained then, then that'll help you fill out the track a bit.

Not to bad, Your percussion choice is well off! Kicks Hits and snares aren't complimenting each other at all, tho alotta' producers don't really think about it, if they don't go together you get a real dodgy feel to the tune, good vocal placement tho.
Don't get me wrong i like it, great idea, get a good Riff along with it i.e the notes from the actual Killer tune and then mess around with it and make a 'Remix' of the actual tune.
If you would like the Score sheet or the Midi of the tune please feel free to add me, any advice i can give you via MSN ill be more than willing to help you.
Cheers, Pure.
