I'm considering finding another DJ Mixer for myself
My friend says I can buy his Pioneer DJM 500, will that be good enough for me?
Do any of you have recommendations for a HAPPY HARDCORE dj on a mixer?
thanks for all your help

what are you wanting to do with it?
if you want to crab scratch it's a pain in the arse. for general mixing it's a great mixer

I'm getting a Pioneer DJM-400 - which I hope to be able to scratch with
Do you need four channels or would two be enough?

Two is enough providing you only have 2 record decks and 2 cd decks, if you want to use anything else (live instruments, laptop, extra decks etc) you would be a bit stuffed.
I have one of these for personal use:-
UREI 1601E

& for our parties when we need something bigger we have one of these:-
ECLER NUO 4

Both come highly recommended! If you only need the two channels I would go for something smaller otherwise it's just a waste of space and money. Smaller mixers with an un-crowded fader are also better for scratching.

The only thing i would say about the pioneer djm 500/600 is the sound quality the mixers produce is not as clean as the other mixers in that range! (DJM 800/909, Rane TTM56/TTM 57 SL, or any of the allen and heath range) Although the built in effect to the 500 are quite good and very easy to use.
As for a 2 channel mixer, out of all the mixers i have used i thought the best quality of sound and easily the best faders on any mixer was the Rane TTM 56.
I have a DJM 600 which is going on ebay very soon am getting a TTM 57 SL:)

If you want my opinion, DO NOT BUY A DJM 500!! They are the most annoying pieces of metal i have ever came accross! Spend the extra and get the 600 if you are going to get a djm! (+ the 500's are discontinued now, probably for good reason, there shit)

^ That looks sexy.
It's very retro, reminds me of the Nintendo Famicom.

if you only use two channels you might, but its a 4 channel mixer and thus should be designed for mixing on 4 channels like the 600!

My anger comes from using one for the first time in a club and not being able to work the bloody thing!
You can only use two channels at the same time, and everytime you want to use a differant channel you have to use the toggle switches at the bottom to set the channel to a specific side of the crossfader, and you cant cross them over live or it makes a stupid noise. All that would of been sorted by the simple Thru option the 600 has. For me it kinda renders it as a 4 channel mixer as being useless cause its no differant to a two channel mixer where you have to use the toggle's at the top to switch from cd to vinyl. money better spend on a djm400 id say or save a bit more for a 600 :)
