There's been a sort of bass I've heard in various tracks over the last couple of years that I've really wanted to mimic, but I could never figure out the names of the songs, so I couldn't do any looking into it.

But a friend recently pointed me to a song by a band called "Shiny Toy Guns", the song is called "Le Disko". I don't know if anybody has heard it, but it's supposed to be fairly popular.

I'm using Albino, V-Station, and Fruityloops. Can anybody help me out? I'm still playing around myself, but if anybody could point me in the right direction, that'd be nice.

3 saw waves. Pitch one of them up a few semitones to get a chord. Automate cutoff modulation as needed. Use lots of glide/portamento. Apply sidechaining compression.

You have now created an all purpose electro/house bass.

My terminology is a lot more basic than that. I understood maybe about half of that. I managed the 3 saw waves, the semi-tone adjustments, and... then that was it. (:

I'm trying to make sense of the rest using Google, but if you wouldn't mind dumbing it down for me a bit more in the mean time, that'd be nice too. (:

Oh, and by the way, thanks for your help.

Automate cutoff modulation = get an envelope or LFO controlling the cutoff of the filter on your synth. This gives it a sense of movement.

Glide/Portamento = do whatever you can do to make the notes slide into each other, rather than sharply changing pitch

Sidechaining Compression = a specific kind of compressor that lowers the bass volume when the kick drum plays, giving you more room in the mix and a "pumping" sound.
