Hardcore is a family, and like so many have said, its not a style of music, its a way of life.
I dunno, the scene has changed, I just dont get the same vibe as I used to, I havent been to an event since 99, and in all honesty, im not overly keen to do so. Obsessions last one appealed to me, mainly due to SL2 in the main room and Sycotic in the back, but I never went. Years ago I couldnt wait for Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, events on all those nights.
I saw more of the UK going to Kinetic, Diehard, Pleasuredome, Fanstasy Island, Dreamscape, Helter, etc etc etc etc I do kinda miss them days. I also spent more time in motorway services during them years, mainly cos we always stopped on the way back for a quick rave up in the car park :D lol If I said that to someone these days, they'd think I was into dogging or something :(
John Peel was never going to be enough, Stations like Radio 1 dont wanna know hardcore, never have never will. Countless times ive contacted them, asking the simple question WHY NOT ? They honestly never have replied, ive put complaints into management, ive raised it with the whole BBC hierarchy , and not once have I had a reply. To them its someone , probably a kid, wanting a noise on Radio 1, yes thats what they probably think. They dont appreciate its a 32 year old, well educated man, asking a reasonable question. We pay TV Licenses, which pays for radio too, so why cant we listen to what WE want, as well as all the other stuff.
Thats life I guess **sighs**

I really wouldn't want Radio 1 about the scene they've completly ruined indie and tbh i couldn't be arsed with band wagon jumping knobs like Jo wiley trying to act like an expert on it and as if she's been there from the beginning, then you get all the latest brain dead students that just listen to what there told coming to raves it would just completly ruin it.

There was a big push to get hardcore on Radio 1, lead by MC Majika. It never came to anything, but the arguement at the time was, they play jungle on R1 so why not hardcore, which is a valid point.
I admit, im not happy with how commercial hardcore has gone, BUT saying that, if it really is commercial, why isnt it gettin airtime on the radio ? Hardcore has as much right to get airtime on the bigger stations as any other type of music. Radio One are basically saying no, because they can. They obviously have something against hardcore, as look at the exposure its had on R1, hardly any, with the obvious exception of John Peel, who appreciated music in all its many forms. God will he be missed.
Now Radio 1 can ignore HHC completely. **** R1 I say. I used to listen into Grooverider and Fabios shows. And yeah Jo Whiley, I mean wtf does she know about anything other than the bands she's told to promote ? NOTHING. Radio 1 are a waste of Hardcore ravers tv license fees. I even tried to get hardcore on my local radio station, I was doing a slot on there myself once, nothing music related, but I spoke to the station manager and when I said what about hardcore music , the look on his face said it all to me. I just dunno what ppl got against it.
