Can I say one thing about vinyl to mp3.
Dont set your bitrate too high or you'll get the program struggling to keep up and the mp3 skips like a kangaroo.
And always use hardware acceleration and read ahead buffers.

Should not record you vinyl to mp3, to start with you should record them as wav with the higest bitrate possible and then convert down!
I would always keep the wav backed up on my external rather than having to rip it again!

you can get away with 320kbps but i would not go lower than that!
What i was actually getting at is the way the post LeVzi wrote it implies that he is recording straight to mp3! If thats what your doing then no wonder it sounds like shit!
What i would do and i would recommend is
1. record the vinyl in auducity, soundforge, etc as a wav file
2. using some software convert the wav file to mp3, i woudl highly recommend using lame as the encoder! For this you could use various program and the results should be the saem as long as you have chose the lame encoder! dbpower amp or razorlame would be good for this!
Now you would be left with a wav and a 320kbps mp3, as wav files dont hold the id3 tag i would convert them to aiff (as these are both uncompressed format no quality will be lost) i would do all the tagging and them move them on to my external, with the mp3s i would tag them and move them to my music folder.
That way when i am just spinning in the house i can run seraro just from my laptop and use the 320mp3's but when i am gigging i can hook my external up and be playing wavs/aiff files

Most audio editing software can export the mp3 anyway, so if you do rip as a wav , just use that to export the mp3.
Wav files will be big at a high bitrate, which is I think the reason a lot of people rip to mp3. But mp3 has a lot of compression in it, hence the rip being dodgy.
In other words, what they said.
