Now I can mix - just need more music! The effects on the DJM400 are really neat!

It was $650 NZ second hand (approximately $490 USD). Rather pricey, but it is in excellent condition (no scratches or anything).
I got the pair of CDJ800s second hand for NZ $1000 (approx $750 USD) which was a very good deal indeed!

The DJM800 is 4 channel
whats different..........
better faders (cross faders and line ups)
better sound quality
better effects
midi
to name a few, remember the cost of the 400 and how old it is and then think how new the 800 is and the cost of that!
These mixer are aimed at different ends of the market!
Something that might intrest you http://www.skratchworx.com/news3/comments.php?id=773 now thats a mixer worthy of being in the starship enterprise! Just a shame they dvdjs are so ****ing expensive:(

Sorry but I'm pretty sure you're wrong about some of those things. The DJM400 is the same generation as the DJM800. The sound quality is very similar to the DJM800 because it uses the same internal digital signal processing: "The DJM400 is designed for high sound quality. Analog sounds are sampled at 96kHz. 24-bit which is the same as a lot of studio equipment nowadays. The actual mixing is performed using the same DSP as that is used for the DJM-1000 and the DJM-800. This ensures that the mixer delivers a clear and powerful sound." The crossfader is the same because the replacement part number is the same for the DJM300,400,600 & 800. I'm not sure about the upfaders but I suspect they're the same also. The DJM800 has some effects which the DJM400 doesn't have, you're right there. As far as I'm concerned, the main differences are: - 4 channels vs 2 - MIDI (You can use the DJM800 as a MIDI controller) - Digital input & Digital output - Harmonic matching (Basically this feature is similar to master tempo: but instead of returning the track to it's original key as with MT, it shifts the track into the key closest to what it is currently in from the pitch adjustment) Eddie

Might be wrong about the up faders but the cross fader on the 800 has more curve postions, eq range differs and personal opinion tells me the sound quality is alot better, you even say its similar therefore not the same!
