does anybody here know exactly what needs to be done to license tracks for a compilation?
atm I'm thinking of posting up a mix on a facebook group but from the looks of the terms of use that's only only allowed if I have permission/own the copyright.
I've noticed that HHC.com allows the posting of mixes without a track listing.how did that come about?wouldn't it be smarter to give credit to the actual artists as well as to avoid any confusion?
And around how much would it cost to have a fully licensed mix?

DJ mixes are about DJ mixing ability and not the tracks contained in them. So technically you should be downloading the DJ mix to check out the ability of the DJ and not because of the tracks inside the mix.
We remove tracklists for three reasons:
1. We're oldskool, DJ mix tapes back in the day had no tracklist (because it was unlicensed), it was about promotion for the DJ and that alone.
2. So people don't download based on the tracklist (basically the same as a free download which gets everyone in the trouble)
3. Labels / artists and copyright holders sometimes ask us to remove mixes with their tracks in it.
Licensing, you will have to contact the label / artist or copyright holder, sometimes they might say okay for free (smaller labels) but any major hardcore label will want anything upto 500 pounds advance payment and some will refuse you straight up even IF your not selling the mix.

For a label which cares about their tracks being included in 'free' mixes, with a tracklisting on the web they can simply do a search for their tracks and ask people to remove the mix (or worse).
Without a tracklisting, the label owners would need to listen to every mix out there to see if it's got their tracks in it.

how often does that happen nowadays then?
cause i got 36 mixes on my site, and I've hade them up for 4 years now. Yet no one has asked me to put them down, and my site is searchable.

Thanx Silver
That clarifies things up somewhat.
hadn't posted any mixes in a while as I felt confused in this specific area.
