Despite the popular belief, we actually do have quite warm summers. But we also have spring, autumn and winter. We also do have sandy beaches, but i never go to those, cause TBH i dont like summer :P What you guys have there is summers that resemble hell, and bugs that make Starship Troopers look tame :P
What we have here are thousands of lakes

...and a beautiful winter :D

yeh you can have the good winters, i hate winter. That picture was almost beautiful.
but my question is what can u do with lakes? u cant live on them, you have to drive all the way around, and there are no waves, so they become pointless. sure u can swim, but u might as well swim in a pool in your backyard. you can also snorkel/scuba dive, that'd be cool. however, if those lakes are salt water u probably get sum pretty decent tide action at the heads which would be fun to swim/surf.
out of curiosity, what latitude do you live at, there are a lot of pine tree's in those pictures.
also, if the laskes are freshwater, do the freeze over in winter?

I love cold winters, makes u appreciate the summer more. Its aace when u open your curtains and everyfin is covered in snow but its all warm inside ur house, love it. Also, at the risk of sounding soppy (urgh!) lol, winter is the most romantic time of year i fink. Theres sum lytrics by a band i like that go 'Chasing the sun isnt my kind of fun, Id rather sit and catch snowflakes on my tongue' That for me sums up winter

Theres not really tieds where you can surf. Compared to swimming pools, the water on the lakes is "clean", in swimming pools they add chemicals to it. Its not salt water. Usually what people do is some sort of motorsports, fishing, swimming etc.

60°27′05″N ;) South Finland. Most of the forrest are mixed forrest, but there are loads of pine trees.
Yea they freeze in the winter. our summer cottage is actually near a lake, but theres no roads there. So in the summer you cross the lake with motorboats and in the winter with snowmobiles. Theres also some places that let you drive in the ice with cars (So that the ice's thickness has been properly measured), which can be fun :p

....and of course, in the spring, just down the lane
Mucking Fental's beautiful
Bluebell Woods -

(which are also excellent for tearing through, like a bunch of maniacs, on Mountain bikes)
and the arrival of the Yellow Wagtails on the path outside the kitchen door -

(although they're not worth shooting because it takes far too many to make cooking them worthwhile)
