Hi guys,
Having attended loads of events from '92 onwards and then filtering into drum & bass, i unfortunately never really paid much attention to Happy Hardcore in '96, but have made up for it since as i can't get enough of the stuff. I have found the names of and purchased loads of tunes that i love and have really been enjoying the music from that year. But what i am asking is, are the tunes as good into '97 and onwards? I'm not too keen on some of the vocal tunes although there are a few that i rate. Is it worth me purchasing some '97 or '98 tape packs? I ask this as i know that the scene struggled for a bit in the late nineties before being reborn of late.
Your assistance and views would be greatly appreciated

personally i think once it hit 97 it was getting tooooooo cheesey and light, there are only 3 years i like thats 94,95,96 for the old skool bouncy hard stuff, you can tell the country was bouncin in 96 with euro 96 being here and us doing canny good. bonkers 3 come out 97 and you can tell it had changed from mad hard bouncy stuff to faggots music but i think it changed everyware cause all the dutch played and made in 97 was gabba style tracks really, they turned there backs on the cheese and we wanted to go higher but then the come down came in the trance era and it died for a bit in 98 99 really. i will probably get slagged off for saying that but its just my opinion from what i have listened to

I loved 1997, particularly the early part of the year before the cheese exploded!
That and 1996 were, and always will be my favourite years for both the music and the events.

i was too young to go to raves n that then but you can just tell it got too out of hand with the cheese, the beats on some tunes sound like fun loving hippies tapping on bass drums hahaha was the rez bangin bunny show in the early part of 97?? cause that is probably the only good set i have from 97 i think and that is still full of cheese

From what i can remember of 97 the choons began to have a lot more vocals. Force & styles choons got played a lot more than anything else. Loads of good choons to be bought from this year for definate. One of my top choons was Kingsize & Eternity - You Belong To Me. For me 1998 was the year when the music all began sounding very similar.

1st off...What's wrong with cheese? You knew that Hardcore had a happier step to it, so it was unavoidable that Hardcore would explode with the element that made it so known. I would love for Hardcore to get gooped on with melted cheese.

The majority of my tape packs are from around 95-98 so obviously i like '97, one of my fave tape packs is from 97 actually The Strings of life....

Bouncy Techno 'died' in 1997! There are alot of good tracks from that year but you can tell that the vocals were becoming a major influence on the scene! Bonkers 3 has alot of vocals but it is still Happy Hardcore! Bonkers 7 sounded very differnt and very Trancecore! It all went quiet in 2000!
