I actually started on those decks and tbh mate i would really look into getting some direct drives. The amount of things you can do on the tt1510's is very limited, Scratching is near impossible and beat mixes fall out of sync quite quickly. As i said on another post somewhere that Djing on belt drive decks nearly put me off djing all together....

Nothing wrong with starting on belt, they're cheap and a good easy way to start. They may not be consistent but I would say try them as a first step into mixing records.

im still on my belt drives and i dont really mind all that much. i'm not too bothered about learnin to scratch tho, and about the fallin out of sync thing thats just made me work that little bit harder wen am mixin, but i still love it. you prolly would be better off gettin a pair of direct drives, but belt drives will be good enough to learn on for the time bein.

i JUST upgraded not even a month ago to some tech 12's from those exact tables and mixer.
let me tell you, it's the difference between driving one of those kiddie toy cars with a battery that went like 4km/hr, versus driving a actual car.
those decks are toys. seroiusly, save your money, buy some used decks from someone. new is dumb. i got mine for 450, canadian. if you're gonna be spending the money at all, save the extra little bit and you wont be wanting to upgrade later, ultimately saving yourself a lot of money in the long run.
i used take the "i like to work hard to keep a solid mix" slant when i still had those belt drives. mixes are sooo much nicer on direct drive. they are nice to learn on, but... yeah man. upgrade. you wont regret it.

Thats a good point Alex, but if your not sure about the whole being "a DJ" thing then it's best not to go straight for the directs as they cost too much money. Belts are cheap and give you a good idea of what it takes to mix two tracks.

But surely finding a friend with decks and having a hardcore session on them would let you know if you could and wanted to d.j...Better that than buying some under par decks that youll be begging to trade in sooner or later.

mortis: they were real good to learn on, but in hindsight if i was to do it all again i'd just skip over the crap and go straight to direct drive.
they taught me a lot but were real junky things, the needle ALWAYS skipped on it when was rocking the record back and forth on that very first beat (not sure of the technical term here but i'm sure you all know)
they were alright, i guess for the price and for a beginner they're good. you have been forewarned that you'll want to upgrade soon, just take that into considertion...
honestly, if i were in your shoes right now, i'd look for used. your pound/dollar will go further.

im still on belt drives, but only until january, and i hate them. u match a beat and they just dont stay in line for more than 5-10 seconds, which makes it impossible to mix, meaning i cant upload mixes to the net.
but just u wait till january ppl :)

That was my point, not so much technical more practical.

I completely agree with Mortis on this. I started on Belt Drives as they were cheap. Once i decided i wanted to keep DJ'ing i saved up for Direct Drives

**** all wrong with Belt drives from a starting out point of view. I had a pair with 4% pitch on them, i could mix better on those than Technics.

I disagree.
If you're going to take dj'ing seriously give it some thought first. A lot of it. Because it costs a lot of money to do it, you might as well get the expensive shit out of the way first. That way if you still want to do it you're vested. If you see yourself not wanting to do it after you buy decks then you just wasted all of your money.
Go to a friends house and see if you like it first. The world already has enough bedroom dj's and I'm sure it wouldn't be hard to find someone that has a set at home.

I started with these but the older versions.
http://www.garagemusic.co.uk/equipment/soundlab1600.jpg http://www.stageaudio.co.uk/images/products/thumb/dsm15.gif I basically built up my record collection and realized i wanted to keep dj`ing with these but thats about it . Get second hand direct drives or something and a more interesting mixer.

I'am saving up for decks and I went to a music shop and talk to a friend and he said it be probable be cheaper to get a pack like the stanton DJ Lab 2 or 3 rather buying all the gear sepreat. The cheapest I saw Stanton DJ LAB 2 was on ebay and it was 510 tax include.
