So basically everyone has told me that getting monitors is going to make my mixdowns THAT much better. So ive decided im going to get some. My budget is about AUS$1000 which is like US$900 or like 400ish pounds. Can i get decent monitors for this price? I want the monitors that are going to be as honest as possible - not just pleasing to the ear.

I was looking at the KRK rokit 8's but ive been advised against it. Anyone have experience?
Also the Alesis M1 active MKII's but have heard bad things about Alesis.
I also looked into either the Event TR6's or TR8's - the 8's look the best to me so far.

Could anyone else recommend me any other monitors that are around my budget (a little bit over is ok) or share any experiences they've had with any of those monitors?

cheers guys.

Who advised you against the KRK's? Ruffage advised me that these are a good choice for a low budget :).

Just check out some reviews on Sound on Sound and places like that.

My mate has a pair of Alesis speakers but I prefer using my KRK's... I dunno what it is but I find it easier to EQ properly with them.

About time you sorted some speakers ;P

ah id prefer not to say who has advised against the KRK's but reputable sources. Ill give a listen to them but theyre not high on the list of priorities.

Im heavily leaning towards the Event TR8's or the Yamaha HS80M's

And i knwo dude. FINALLY its getting sorted :)

I personally like the HS80s.

Yes, it was me. I depsise KRKs. most of the time I find they have much to much mud (140-200Hz) usually being ridiculously resonant at around 150Hz.

Hate.

I'm sure there is something that redeems their company and their products, however I just find that I'd get better mixdowns from working on a trashed gameboy, thats all.

Really? :S Which ones did you use? I find them quite even TBH... I don't have the 8's though I have the 6's as it's all I need in my little room.

I and many producers I've collaborated with use the KRK Rokit 8s and they're definately wicked for the money

I personally haven't experienced any of that low end muddiness but I've only done serious things on them in EFM-7's studio and he has a KRK Rokit 10 studio sub to take care of the lows...

I have Behringer Truth B2031As at home...they're really cheap and sound pretty damn good considering they cost me 400$US

and they're loud

but the KRKs are more defined in the top end (they're not as loud though, but that's fine for mixdowns)

The trapazoidal Rokits and the Rokit 8s.

Horrible.

Rokit 8s are a good place to start and they will help immensely from whatever speakers you're on now most likely. just make sure you've got a decent room for them, mine are stuck in a nook that totally screws with the bass (which may be why sambit1 despises them so).

i had a listen on the Event TR8's today. They didnt have the yammies in stock but im going back to listen to them when theyre in but the events BLEW MY MIND. They were the best monitors there by far. Mind you there were up against the likes of behringer truths... which sounded like complete shit compared to the events. Everything else just sounded so dull and then the events was just like an aural explosion.

Im pretty set on getting them unless the yammies sound better.
