having just read kevin's e-mail circular about the AMATO and RESIST crisis, you can't help but think that the big labels could have helped prevent this. going back when the file sharing sites and free download fiends popped up on the internet explosion, they all had the chance to nip it in the bud. instead they didn't see the dangers. kids have been literally brought up thinking it's ok to download music free. they don't think to buy. i don't blame them, as we all like a freebie! i blame the 'powers that be' that put the mechanism in place
everyone must have been thinking that if no one is doing anything about it, hey! carry on, can't be bothering anyone that much. when the penny finally dropped, the snow ball got to big and nothing could stop it. now there's knee jerk 'it's illegal' 'fines' 'law courts'. to little to late. kids have become fine tuned at milking the system that wasn't put there by them.
i know young teenagers who have never bought from record shops. they look at you and say, "why should we when you can get it for free? no one told us it's illegal". now they do know they probably find it exciting. a now a problem within a problem. offering 'bonus tracks' 'free dvd video on legit a CD is to late
big labels will survive though, it the small independant who go under. you have to be optimistic and say it's not to late, but there need to be lifeline thrown by the big labels for the smaller labels to get through this looming meltdown. "where there's a supply, there's a demand??" just a worrying thought.

I received this email from kev as well and after i read it i thought, yeah its a serious issue, but i think its more than just labels that will sufer. Look at the attitude now given towards 3rd party distributors... "i wont trust one ever again". This must be a common feeling amongst label owners surely.
And P.S. Paul can you please email me theres some things we need to speak about.

ehm... what about what Scott Brown said? Amato were bought over by a company 'Unique' who seemed to run Amato into the ground, leaving all it's staff and labels stunned when they closed doors 2 weeks ago.

I put the blame on bad business practices for Amato and Resist, rather than piracy.

I have to side with Kev on this one.
Fact is though, yes, loads of kids are downloading lots of tunes. But even if digital labels started up early in the game, kids wouldn't have bought them
How many raver kids do you know have a credit card to buy mp3's online?
The problem is the mentality of the audience, not the delivery of the product.
Within hours of release, Bonkers 17 was up for download on public ******* trackers. Thats freaking heart breaking. The fact that the trackers had so many seeders too just goes to show people's attitude to the whole thing.

Do you also consider the mentality of those who hate CD-singles, those who only want Hardcore to be released as Vinyl?`They don't buy MP3 either

That hardly hurts the labels though does it. The problem is people not paying for tracks not the people who are paying for them on a different format to MP3! Vinyl brings in more money for hardcore than MP3 ever has.
I'll continue to buy vinyl for as long as possible because A. I prefer to use it and B. I've got a 1000+ strong record collection and a pair of expensive decks I don't fancy discarding any time soon! I'm sure there are many others in the same boat.

I want MP3/CD because I'm foremost a Listener, not a DJ or someone who likes crackles and pops :P

That's very nice for you but there is no need to make out people who buy vinyl are some sort of git who are to blame for the decline of hardcore sales aye :).
A well kept vinyl doesn't have pops and crackles anyway, just like a well kept CD doesn't skip and stutter...
*edit*
For the record I don't have a problem with CD or MP3 releases, I'm more than happy for all three to co-exist.

Where do you get them from? A good way to clean a vinyl is with wood glue. Cover the surface, leave for 24 hours and peel off. It will remove any dirt or oil on the vinyl without causing it any harm.
