What happened to the volume? It like gets softer & softer between each track.

Would you believe it's harder to keep the volume level constant through out a mix than what it may seem. You really need the right kind of equipment or a trained ear - that will also come in time as you practise.
Or do you mean between the mixing of the tracks? If so it sounded to me like he wasn't using the x-fader but the up faders.

What kind of equipment would you need for that?
When i record mixes i would play the first track ensuring no clipping on the recording prior to starting. With the first track playing i would take a mental note of where the LED display lights are hitting at there peak then when i line up the next track before i even listen to it in the head phone i will adjust the gain so the LED display lights are hitting the same as the other deck (note this would be done in the middle of the tune not the intro) then once i put the head phones on i would do some minor adjustments if needed! Never had a probelem that way!
Of course that was back in teh stone age days, back when i still used real vinyl!
Now i use control vinyl i click on setup, ensure all overviews are built, then click autogain adjust the gains on my mixer so they match and thats it i am good to go...........

Thats the kind of eqipment I was talking about - either automated volume controls or
LED's (and attention to detail). Trouble with LED's is that records are recorded at different volumes so it can be tricky to judge it right all of the time, thats where the "trained ear" comes into play.
You can use monitors aswell if I'm not mistaken - never tried them myself.
