http://www.soundclick.com/bands/default.cfm?bandID=795019 That's my first song I've made so far. Does anyone have an opinion? If you need to be mean go ahead, I'm a newb at this anyway. Any suggestions or something? Cheers.

Hi pal, some hopefully constructive feedback. First thing I'd like to say though is always try new things, and don't take any advice as gospel truth (especially mine!).
I get the vibe and I like your tune, especially the riff that finishes last.
I feel the instruments could be brightened up a bit. A good thing to try might be raising the octave of some tracks. Also try lessening/removing any filters or EQs that are cutting out the high frequencies of melodic parts.
The kick needs to punch through more. This is usually caused by other instruments with bass frequencies muddying up the mix. The kick and bass tracks should normally be the only tracks with frequencies below 200 - 300ish hertz. Then you can try adjusting the volume and subtle distortion.
--There is a clash of frequencies which I think you could clear up to improve the song a lot. A riff comes in at 1.48, then at just before 1.50 the culprit appears! It's that bass sound that carries on through the drums and hits on the 'your' of put your hands up, it's the offbeat of beats 1 and 3 of every 4 beat bar...
Again octaves and/or EQ or simply removing it altogether. If you go down the EQ route I'd recommend cutting the highs of the bass and the lows of the rest of the riff - I'd try making the EQ cutoff points anywhere between 200 and 1000ish (E.G. bass high requencies cut off at 700 and riff low frequencies cut off at 850)...
The reason my example has the riff cut off at 850 and not 700 is that the EQs will 'fade' rather than cut straight down - bass EQd at 700 will probably tail off gradually to somewhere in the region of 850. Your EQ will have a setting that cuts all frequencies above your selected point, at a slight slope like \ or /. Probably called low pass or high pass.
Sorry if you know any of this by the way.
Save your project as different files e.g. carnival1, carnival2 so you can revert back or check you are still keeping your initial vision alive. Export tunes as mp3s into your project folders so that when you have a few tunes made you can have a quick listen to them instead of opening up Acid.
Finally, always make EQ and other adjustments while your whole mix is playing. The trick to production is how the parts relate - the way they sound solo only matters if they are solo.
So although that might seem a lot, it is stuff you will nail easily so... whatever . In a nutshell pay attention to bass clashes and give instruments 'their place' with EQ and octaves. Bit of reverb and delay wouldn't go amiss.
Notice my advice doesn't involve changing your ideas, just a few tweaks to try. And remember don't take any advice as gospel truth (especially mine!), take your time, feel the music and have fun.

Wow thanks!
As for the technical problems you've described, it's Acid.I think if I were to fix those problems I would need something like Cubase (which I am saving up for, as well as a big audio editing system). For the sounds, well, Acid won't recognize any of the VSTis I have, and the only two built in are terrible for hardcore. In other words I should have done my research before going out and getting a program...
I understand the other things, I will make sure to take those into account.
Cheers!
