Hi All,

I represent Accelerate, a new club night in central Oxford spinning
Hardcore and Hard Dance (alongside some other stuff in the back room).
You can check out our website at www.accelerate.me.uk (it may be up
and down a bit as we are moving servers right now)

We are looking for local DJs of the Hardcore variety, ideally NOT
old-school (SL2, Altern8 etc) as that is already pretty well covered
in Oxford. Upfront 4/4 or breakbeat would be our preference!

As you may know Oxford is a bit of a black-hole for Hardcore so this
represents a very rare opportunity to spin out proper Hardcore here so
do please get in touch if you are interested at [email protected]

I should say right now that we are just starting out so we can't offer
much beyond beer (and a lot of fun!) in payment, but if you love
Hardcore and want to see it grow in your area then show your support!
Info on our upcoming gigs is on the website and the usual forms.

Thanks in advance,

Jamie (Accelerate)

What club are you playing in? We do parties around the Oxford area but have never ventured into Oxford town... Would be interesting to see how the night goes with all the pop loving, students.

There is a few decent Psy Trance and Techno nights that go on in Oxford but they don't tend to draw their crowd from the Oxford population.

Do you have a decent sound system of your own and everything or are you using poor club systems?

Definitely interested. I also know quite a few others who would be.

Is harder types of Hardcore accepted as well or is it just, UK hardcore, Happy Hardcore, Freeform and Breakbeat hardcore basically? I would assume not due to location if nothing else but you might surprise me. :p

Hi Bulby_g,

Thanks for getting back to me. We are just starting out so we are going with a "cheap and cheerful venue", which is the East Oxford Community Centre. This has about a 250 - 300 capacity given the hall and the bar combined so we will be doing two rooms (one hardcore and one house to give people a bit of a chill-out). The venue is not super plush but it has seen a lot of action over the years and has a good pedigree in underground music. Main hall has a 3k Turbosound system which we are aiming to tweak (a bit long in the tooth but works OK). We will bring in deco, and a full DMX lighting rig including scanners and strobes. A friend is hoping to bring along his 1 watt green laser the only issue being safety (it could do the largest venue in Oxford easily).

in terms of myself, FYI I co-run (since 2005) the leading Psy-Trance night at the Coven in Oxford, Baraka, and know the techno guys (Storm, Surge) reasonably well. You can check our sites here www.barakasphere.com www.barakarecords.com so I have quite a bit of experience. I do appreciate it will take a while to build up a clientèle which is why I am starting small.

Music-wise, if it can be categorised as Hardcore or Hard-dance I am fairly open minded but as you say probably UK hardcore, Happy Hardcore, Freeform and Breakbeat hardcore etc. If you are up for a Gabber death-core set then let me know but we are trying to keep it relatively accessible for now. Sorry if that puts you off.

All the best,

jamie

Cool, sounds good. Never heard of the venue but then I don't spend much time in Oxford even though I'm just down the road in Chinnor. I enjoy the Baraka nights BTW, WKD party.

The music doesn't put me off, no. I play every type of hardcore going really.

I'll drop you an e-mail but I haven't recorded a mix in a while due to moving house and not having my stuff set up yet! Hope one with no new material doesn't put you off (I assume you will want one :P).

Have seen that your first night clashes with Raindance... I would have checked it out otherwise.

excellent - thanks. Do drop me an email and I'll send over my address for a demo. Glad you like Baraka, I should say its not just me behind it by a long way but Hardcore is my thing so I am trying to replicate that success in another genre (fingers crossed - long way to go yet).

A demo would be much appreciated and hope to see you at an Accelerate event soon.

Cheers,

jamie

GO FOR IT!

Expect a lot of work, though... ;)

I live in Leatherhead, Surrey. The Scene is big enough round this area but nobody would be willing to put events on & i'm far too busy at the mo. Your nights sound really good though.
