my guess is you don't have enough weight on the tone arm, maybe the needles need replacing as well....

did the previous owner have any problems?

Ive been adding loads of weight to the tone arm but doesn't seem to work, to me it feels a bit stiff, do you think its worth replacing tone arm, or just buying some new decks, i didnt pay anything for these and my friend never used them. He bought them off ebay about a year ago.

i'd buy a paid of used technics if i would do it over again.

i got a pair of perfectly functioning ones for 500$ canadian (i think like 250pounds?). they are such a solid, well put together turntable, i can see myself never needing to buy new ones again.

if you think you are serious about it, you are going to be spending this money now or later right? so save yourself the money in the long run, buy a pair of GOOD used decks and you shouldn't have to upgrade again.

... good thing you got these for free.
