Need your help fellas - been loving electronica for a very long time now in all genres and i think its finally time for me to start letting my ideas out and begin creating my own tracks. I have a few friends that do the same and use programs such as reason and fruit loops - they dont have tables or anything like that they just use their PC to create some pretty dank tracks. what program would be good for me to start with? ive watched my friend use reason and it seems to practically have limitless potential - but it looks very complicated. what program would be good for me to start with? thanks!

i use fruityloops, its pretty decent. Cubase is the one that most professionals use but none are better than the other, its just preference i guess. try and download demos and see which you prefer

If youre using a mac, Id suggest Logic, hands down. Ableton Live is also good, reason has some decent sounds but I wouldnt recommend it as your main daw because you cant record your sounds to audio and play with them even more which is pretty important.
For Pcs Id first reccomend Nuendo or Cubase, Live, Acid Pro, Cakewalk(havent used ityet).
Hope this helps

I use Ableton Live 7 as i think it is good on all aspects.
I have start to train myself on Cubase.
Coming from a professional side of thing the most powerfull piece of music production software would have to be LOGIC

i am using reason 3.04 and have a KORG padKontrol MIDI studio Controller and a small MIDI keyboard and found that with those 3 things its a pretty powerful program. Used cubase but personally i like reason, just never really got into cubase i need to though.. Also use acid pro and soundforge 7.
Its so hard to narrow production down to one piece of software as they all have their strong points and sometimes you need to call on bits of them all for that unique sound.

Shows your inexperience.
You can spot a Reason track a mile away. Ask any real producer.
Unless you're going to use Rewire; Reason is probably one of the WORST investments when it comes to DAWs.

I would recommend reason 4.0. Its a great production tool and as mentioned you can spot reason tracks and i would also recommend a rewire to cubase,
Probably a good idea to get into reason and cubase together, as it makes it easier to learn them when you have them working together.
If u cant get both, the Reason is the choice i would make, simply for the fact its very easy to pick up and use, and its a good start for learning automation as its really simple on reason 4.0.
But I suppose its all down to what you feel comfortable useing.
Happy Mixing
