I'm fairly new to the hardcore scene and raving in general, but I'm interested in starting to try producing. As a producer of hardcore, is it a must that you know how to DJ as well? Would it detract from your songs, or just if you were mixing them?

It seems all the best producers are able to DJ and whatnot as well, but I dont how theres such a connection

The only reason you see this connection is because in order to have your name widely known as a DJ, you "have" to produce. It's got nothing to do with the technical aspects of it, it's all about publicity.

So people are first DJs, and then producers? Does this mean that there aren't very many people who mostly produce and didnt use it as a publicity tool?

It seams to be very hard to break into the hardcore production side of things, well here in the uk it is anyway. But juts keep plodding away sending demo's and good things to those who wait lol

Thats not entirely true. I've always been a producer first and then a dj. I prefer writing and crafting musical journey's rather that playing other peoples tunes.
