Is there any other methods to extract vocals, apart from inverting a track along side its instrumental?

There is next to no circumstances where this is effectively possible, in most cases you won't be able to do it.

i heard of a way, by matching up a vocalless version of the tune and the vocal one exactly and doing some stuff with it, and it came out clean.
but, in alot of cases its just not going to happen if you just want the vocals.

If you have a complete copy that is instrumental you can create a delta wave of the two audio files. A delta wave is the difference between the two audio tracks, it wont be perfect but it will work, you'll need some professional audio tools to do it, I know Steinberg Wavelab can do Delta waves.
Only problem is finding an instrumental version of a vocal track that is exactly the same.

It's not as effective with MP3s but it does work quite well sometimes with .wavs; I've done a number of remixes of J-pop tracks this way (since 90% of their singles have instrumentals ). I do this with Sound Forge but any other precision wave editing program with an 'Invert/Flip Waveform' function will help you accomplish it.
