Jeez what a match that was, I was close to a heart attack until Babel scored! Anyway onto your question:

IMO, multisample packs are usually marketed towards people who have a limited knowledge of software/hardware synthesis. They can be great if you're new to production and you need an instant sound, such as a fat supersaw, but personally I'd encourage any aspiring producer to learn how to make their own sounds.

I bought a pack from Vipzone a few years ago which was great at first but since learning how to program my own software synths I very rarely use them.

I'd say try the dvd, but I'd recommend layering the sounds with another synth/multisample to create something of your own rather than use an out-of-the-box sound thats available to anyone who buys the pack.

:)

Never used Halion personally, but I know version 3 has got effects such as modulation, distortion, etc. You'd be able to use these in conjuction with its built in filters to shape the sounds to your liking :)
