AVS is not free anymore but you can get McAfee for free from AOL:

Haven't had a anti-virus installed on my comp for ages and forgot free ones. Maybe AVG or something I dunno if that is still free.
No need for anti-virus. :P Stop looking/downloading porn, warez and you be fine. ;)

Pretty sure you can still DL AVG free edition - http://www.download.com/AVG-Anti-Virus-Free-Edition/3000-2239_4-10320142.html I got it a couple of months back and it is still working fine and updating. There is a version with more options available that you pay for though.

There's a "big 3" of good free AVs. AVG has already been mentioned, the other two are:
- Avira - http://www.freeav.com - Avast - http://www.avast.com All 3 are great in terms of detection etc., more than enough for home use.

Use Avast purely for the piratey name if nothing else. :P
Not sure if nod32 or kaspersky do free versions but they should also be worth a look.

Yeah, AVG is free for personal use.
I use F-Secure which is the best, but it costs like 60€/year for 3 computers.

AVG gets my vote, Never had a problem while having AVG on my computer, And its warning system is good to. Alerts you to any file that has suspicious code or .exe files hidden inside. Think there is still a free version that gets free updates.
