well what i mean is, shouldn't you save all your anthems and big songs for when the dance floor fills up, and what sort of songs are good to build up to that.

I'd go for some mellow chilled stuff at the start and build into the set getting faster and perhaps harder (depends on the party/crowd). People tend to just want to listen for a bit at the start of the night, chat to their friends, grab a drink etc. Stay away from anthems, grab peoples interest & build it up to gently pull them to the dance floor.
Depends on the party/crowd though mate.

Warm up, play tunes with NOT alot of big breakdowns or vocally parts, don't play vocally anthem after anthem, I might even say only play 1 or 2 as the last two tracks, the crowd has alot of energy at the start of the night and you need to give them something to dance too!
If you do a good set people will remember you as they arn't as trashed as they will be later in the night.

play it like you're headlining. how you program your sets dictates your style - don't let your timeslot deter you from throwing down how you want!

depends what sort of hardcore your into really?
if its just uk hardcore then you dont have a lot of choice really, its either cheesy uk hardcore or cheesy uk hardcore!
if you are into loads of different styles of hardcore, play them progressivly from the most chilled out / inviting to the harder stuff. pretty self explanatory really!

having never ever played out, but been a raver listening to music,
i'd love it if someone played PUMPIN' music, and not lame "warm up" shit.

depends on what other people are going to be playing and who you're playing for...I'll usually shoot the sh!t with other djs (hardcore or not) and see what kind of labels they'll be playing so that way I'm not playing the same tunes.
if you're playing for people who you know like hardcore your job is much easier than playing for a group of people who hate anything above 160 bpm.
