Ok, i got the acapella for Kelly Clarkson - Because of You and have been working on a remix for a while.
Its kind of Donk-y hardcore, the reason i say hardcore is its 167bpm and i usually do donk at about 155ish.
Anyway, people who have listened to my tracks before know that im only starting out, so i would really appreciate the feedback, as i do realise that it could still be improved quite alot.

Donk is that pipe sound that is used in bouncy/scouse house. I think its called donk because the noise it makes sounds like 'donk!'

its a good track
maybe synth in the background would make it flow a bit more

yeah i was really struggling with a synth for the track actually, thats one of my main problems with it

the vocals and the bass do not seem to be in the same key, so it sounds weird

Ok first of all the vocals are slightly out of time nearing the end of each pause. Also the bass (donk) is out of key, i found that the structure of the tune partic at the start. However i like the bass sample, and i think the stabs sound good.

p.s does the donk need to be pitched higher or lower?

in order to know the key, the first thing to do is to know what is the pitch or the key of the vocals.
what I do usually is to write the melody of the vocals with another instrument until it sounds exactly as the vocals, and based on this I choose what notes go on the bass.
other thing you can do is to listen the harmony in the original song, the guitar riffs and the bass usually play the main key in each part of the song, so try to indentify whats the main note played each 4 bars, and this will be the note for the donky bass.
all this involves music theory so if you not know to much about it, you should start geting into it, belive me, it helps A LOT in the composition process.
