I’m just getting the hang of mixing so there are loads of tracks that I find difficult to mix but most are down to my limited skills. I find some ’91 – ’93 tracks difficult to mix as they often have very short intros and the beats aren’t perfectly looped. Tracks like Phantasy & Gemini ‘Ruff Beats’ and Red Alert & Mike Slammer ‘F*ckin Hardcore’ have lots of silent gaps in the intro which I find difficult to work with. One thing I’ve found that helps with short intros, gaps in the intro or very chopped up beats is to beatmatch using a part of the track with a more consistent clear beat so when you try and mix in the track your closer to the correct tempo.

Generally speaking beatmatching only really started to come in around this time, most DJ's around this time used to fade and cut thus the tracks are as they are.

try mixing Ultrasonic- Let the Bass drum Go
This has to be the most irritating track to mix but it's also one of my most favorite hardcore tracks. It's such a shame

almost everything 4/4 is mixable but some are just weird
Fakkah - Flute has triplets so it's hard to mix
I find UFO - Tears a bitch to mix out of because the piano stays in too long, so unless you're in the same key it sounds wrong
Charlie Lownoise & Mental Theo - Wonderful days (the HHC one, no the Happy Gabber one) is annoying...there's no beat at first so you have to match the bassline...it's made even harder since my copy is some shitty 33rpm bootleg whitelabel that's touchy
The original "Lost generation" is kinda tough too

Couldn't do that one either on me first attempt, but now I just skip past the bassline at the beginning and start from when the beats come in. just start it 9 beats later, problem solved.

You can do it that way to, do you find skipping to the bassline and kick is more accurate than beatmatching percussion with kick and bass from the other song? I rekon it more faster and accurate if you skip, what ya think?

Well, I can beatmatch it that way or just use the bassline. It's just harder than the usual tuneage. Especially since the mastering on that tune is terrible so mixing it smoothly is hard.
I just drop it in on the first bassline note and match it, then align it properly if it's off by a beat (which it usually is). Works out fine, it's just inconvenient and the first time I played that record I was quite confused...

yeh, me too. it seems to have one too many bass notes, so have to frantically skip it forward to align it, so i just stick it on when the beat comes on. just easier that way for me.
@ Complexion: yeh, i find it easier when there's percussion from both tracks playing. I can do it with just the bass on "Wonderful Days" but there's less chance of me messing the mix up if i just skip forward, so i do that.
