Man I'm going to shoot myself in the foot if I can't figure this out. Every day when I'm listening to the core I keep hearing these common sounds. And no I'm not wanting to copy (that's what wankin does) I'm wanting to figure out how these people are doing this, how I can achieve these effects.. Take for example, the bassdrum in Insomniak:
http://www.zippyshare.com/v/93351346/file.html
This synth in Breeze and Styles' remix of Before Tomorrow:
http://www.zippyshare.com/v/84766979/file.html
The grungy, funky bass in David's remix of Shine:
http://www.zippyshare.com/v/29474298/file.html

And before when other people have asked on here the response has usually been "just a standard keyboard synth". But does anyone know anything more? Like what effects I can do? Is there anything like them in a VST plugin? Or is something in a sample pack and the like?

Cheers.

No, I am not making this up, I did happen to ask the local office and they said they don't need me for paper delivering. And even if I could, I loathe waking up really early. When I turn 16 I imagine I'll apply for a job at the local best buy. I know true geeks hate them but it's the only store around here that would have positions open for someone like me that are relevant to my interests.

I have found a boatload of free VSTs that kick out some nice sounds so I've been using those. Although I still can't figure out how get that unique bass sound like you hear in Da Edge's music.

Ok, let's pretend I'm holding you by the shirt and shaking you violently... how the heck can I get that harsh bass sound like I was talking about?? I figured out how to do the bassdrum and synth but I'm stuck on the bass.

it's just detuned saw waves dude with some added effects, some people use samples, some refuse to. so to try & get the exact sound is near on impossible plus someone has already done it, go with the flow & find something that you think sounds good

Does anyone know a good Saw wave-centric VST (free or not)? I currently only have 1 VST that can do saws fairly good but not for doing basses. Please?
