Right if ya a DJ and you know those tracks where you sometimes don't get a kick intro and you get either a soft percussion, breakbeat, pad intro.

- How many of you skip it to the part where there are kicks and bass etc...?
- How many of you don't?

I'd like to hear your reasons why to, :)

Cheers!

Depends always skip past it to que up but often like mixing intros once is all cueued up and beatmatched, especially long one's in dark dnb etc sounds cool to mix out intros before the drop

I don't

I can beatmatch with the bassline, hi hats, ride, clap...basically anything that's there
...even if it's just a piano melody I can beatmatch that fairly easily

I used to have to skip to the part with a solid beat when I was learning but now I wouldn't want to. Waste of time :P

The other reason is that I generally mix on the first break so I'd be off structure if I skipped to the kickdrum part since I can't really cue up and drop it (as I'm not mixing on the last break).

I would usually start my mixes on the last break or mabey even before & gradually bring it in but I would never skip to a beat. As Dain-ja said, there's always something to use like a clap or hihat or even melody. If you know the track well enough, you can mix with just a melody because you know what it sounds like with a beat over it. does that mean when you start your mixes u would skip by 16bars of the track?

Well the first track that comes to my mind for that question is Mystify Me. Mystify Me has an extremely mellow opening that you have to pay extremely close attention to in order to match it up perfect. You just have to listen very close to the cymbals and make sure there on beat with the song thats already playing.

The only time Ill skip an intro or skip to another part is if the intro is to long and I need it cued at a different spot so the part I want to play will play when I want it to.

Meh you can do it anyway you want but don't you guys find it more easier to skip to beat and bass and kick? Like it is much faster to beatmatch, easier to hear than soft hi hats etc... and I think more accurate, if ya get what I mean. Who agree's? :)

Depends on the track really, what I'm mixing out of, and how I want the mix to sound.

Personally i have to mix with a kickdrum, but thats mainly down to the fact that im not a very good DJ lol, Im better at MCing and Producing (and my producing is bad, so my DJing must be terrible haha)

depends on the track and also where I'm at, but most of them are a solid 4/4 even if they start on an off note.

couple of old tracks I own start out really weird and don't have any structure, those I have to skip to where the high hat or bass start

or if the monitors suck/can't hear in the headphones I'll skip ahead to make sure the tune is in tempo

Im the same it depends on the tracks i am mixing with. I alwyas cue up and beatmatch the tracks on the kick's at the start, but sometimes when i mix ill take it from the build up not the start of the track when i bring it in, makes for a smothe mix and sometimes works really well with some tracks.,

I usually scratch over or try to do something to make it sound like its getting ready for something awsome. usually i put sound clips in it or scratch. Hoping to post some mixes up soon. just need to get a new mixer or get a new Xponent.

I can beat match with all elements of a track so i do just that . I prefer to use as much of the track as possible. I've mixed tracks like that in Cheese Files 23 - 'like ice in the sunshine' and 'techo wonderland' both have pad/slow piano intros.

I'm not very good so for setting the tempos up I tend to use a part with a good beat. But when mixing the track in I'll often start from the first discernable rhythmic part. Not sure why you wouldn't use a breakbeat for beat mixing as most of the tunes I play have a breakbeat throughout!
