Can you mix on vinyl?

I use denon but mine are S1000's without a moveable jogwheel, I love em because they have two lasers and much quicker on seeks and fine tuning. But with that said buy pioneer it's the standard.

To get back to the original question I'd say go for it and get something you can afford. Pioneer's are lovely but better to get something and have a go rather than not!

i dont know what these jokers are talking about. Your starting off, buy a starter KIT. or just find a friend who owns tables and see if ya dig it. if you spend over a grand for all your gear to start off with, you got ripped off. start slow and build up to good stuff. dont blow your wad too fast.

And I am not looking for anything too fancy, just something basic, but is good. I also want to mix at 175-180 BPM, so is there anything special I need to keep an eye out for? All help is appreciated!

If you are comfortable with vinyl, I would look into the Technic cdjs. I play mine just like a turntable and the pitch control is almost exactly like the original technics.

If you dont mind buying used off ebay, you can find pretty good deals on complete setups.

Like Silver said tho, Pioneers are industry standard. If you want to go that route, buy the 800's...after all the times I have played out of state, more often than not, they are using those.

I didn't say that, personally I think denon are way better but they are not standard so go for the pioneer.

Denons are junk
...the jog wheels on them are trash and the pitch fader is a cheap piece of shit

Get the industry standard. PIONEER.

Since you're a beginner, you don't need anything too crazy. To start, used CDJ-100s are fine and will run you 300-400$ a *PAIR*. They were what you found in clubs for years so they'll be more than enough and hold a good resale value for when you want to upgrade.

DO NOT get a "starter kit", those are crap. The only people that will tell you to get them are noob DJs (everyone starts somewhere but listen to the opinions of people that actually play out on a regular basis, not bedroom DJs).

You can get a decent used Vestax or Pioneer DJM-300 to start on - that'll run you 100-300$.

There's no need to get into anything with effects like a DJM-400 cause they're useless until you learn the basics. A badly EQd trainwreck still sounds bad if you throw a flanger effect on it. STAY AWAY from effects for now.
