But does anyone else hate the fact that a lot of hardcore now is REALLY REALLY - actually TOO compressed?
Some tracks by professional producers just sound squashed! The breakdown is as loud as the peak, and everything in the breakdown is as loud as the vocals so sometimes i cant even make out certain words coz they're getting drowned out by other things! Its like everything is so comrpessed its all running into each other! I can tell its well mixed down but just gone WAY overboard with the comrpession! i just dont get it!
It frustrates me because i feel it almost ruins certain tracks for me that i loved musically... I honestly feel like its very unpleasant to listen to and i think thats why i dont like a lot of new hardcore....
Anyone have these same feelings or am i the only one?

I actually like the powerful, loud and punchy mastering popular these days. We've probably hit the brickwall (hahahapunhahaha) already, so there are some producers/engineers who prefer to step back a bit and give their tracks a bit more breathing space without compromising overall volume that much. But yeah, the "top tier" are just a bit over the top and - especially in more intense tracks with really powerful riffs - it's noticeable for the worse.
My main problem in this area nowadays is album mastering. Albums have to be mastered, yes, but sometimes it's just too much and - with already over-maximized tracks - you can hear some nasty distortion. A big no-no.

Im not complaining about the strong improved mastering we have... im talking about the blatant over-compression in some of the top-tier and a little of the mid-tier artists.

Yea, totally know what your talking about. I feel the same exact way about it, it just really makes the track not enjoyable to listen to.
The track that comes to my head when you say that is Hard Timez by Nomad & Impact. Its an absolutely wicked track, but they over compressed the shit out of it.

Hooray, someone else has noticed! I was beginning to think it was just us (Ionosphere).
We bloody hate it as it removes virtually all of the subtlety of tone and feeling that we enjoy building into a track.
It maximises everything into a very loud and crisp track but is incredibly wearing, not only on the ears but on the soul.
It is however, 'The Fashion'.
If you don't do it, your track will sound undynamic and relatively quiet....
(oh no! Let's all jump on the bandwagon then and B*llocks to to the actual 'music' of it) FFS!
*edit*
....and Ian's just said
"Yeh. Fifty years of studio engineering to the very highest standards has been F*cked off by silly little wannabe engineers. It hurts my ears just thinking about it".

LOL I am actually struggling to reach that type of sound, so my tracks sound more"professional", or at least the same quality

That big sound has to be done just right, and obviously if you want a floor filler that kind of thing matters, but I agree, that's why I've switched to listening to more laidback tech house...:/

The loudness war is going on everywhere but it seems specific to hardcore that overcompression has become really popular. Its sad because tracks are sounding louder to compromise quality and in general tracks just dont sound as clean anymore.
Its really disappointing to think that tracks i ever have that are signed, the label will master them to the degree of a quality im not happy with.

Hey, finally people are noticing that music is being ruined! I thought I was the only one ;)
I wonder how much of it can be directly attributed to the mystical 'secret' T-Racks preset that's out there :D
If only everyone used www.purefocus.ca for mastering :)

Well i mean lets be honest, if they're being played at a club its not like they need to be so compressed to be that loud... they're gonna be ****ing loud anyway!
I just dont understand the point to be honest.

I don't understand the point in it either :-/. Surely if you want music played loud you just turn up the damn sound system. I know it's not exactly the same but there is really no need for the silly compression.

and they're always louder,
annoyingly louder....?
Same sort of shit.
