The reason why most people prefer older stuff is because almost everyone is wired to appreciate their "entry" sound more than anything else. You know - shivers down your spine, goosebumps, ecstasy without E etc. For many people, including myself, it's such an intense experience that you're gonna value it higher than anything til you die. ;)
Of course there are exceptions. You might discover that some other kind of music (say, older hardcore) gives you a comparable or even bigger rush. You might simply get bored and start to appreciate a less familiar sound (say, older hardcore). But I've found that for the most part it's the "entry factor", pure and simple.
Oh and btw, today's hardcore is wicked. It's diverse (if you dig deep enough), it's well-produced and it's widely available. Let's appreciate it while we still can. :)

agreed, i still get shivers down my spine when i listen to the Dougal @ helterskelter mileniumjam set, cause that's the first tape and in actual fact, first time i heard this 'hardcore' music in my life, it was fresh to my ears and sort of alien to me, i still listen to that tape now. to me nothing can better it.

Totally agree with you on the entry point. I remember hearing hixxy spin at my 2nd rave. Him coming to arizona is a rarity. This was in 2004 so basically 2004-2008 is my favorite hardcore. Probably always will be. GOod post man

I still dont get how pinkdevil is calling 2005 OLD Hardcore. Though, I guess there will come a time when we refer to 2000+ as "old skool" in the future.

I'd more jus say you got into it at a good time. I started off listening to the old scottish stuff like ultrasonic, rhymic state, marc smith etc and had a good lot of dutch gabber and english happy tapes/cds aswell. Still listen the odd time for memories and is certain class tracks i'll always love and remember.
But at the same time the only stuff i regularly listen to now that i liked back then would be the mokums, ruffnecks and lenny dee sorta stuff. Nasenbluten i had no clue about back then and is some of my fav hardcore tracks now. Also listen to loads of old english breakbeat and jungle which i never listened to back then.
But yeah i still absolutely love the hardcore techno/hard dnb coming out just now as much as anything, is so much good stuff coming out and it just works when raving.
From this thread and many others see a lot of people sayin there fed up or disheartened with hardcore or how its going, been the same story for years. Said it before and will say it again if this is the case people need to try other things out, theres a lot of great rave music coming out and is 20 + years of history since acid house is just about geeking up and digging around. If you put all your faith in one sub genre dont be surprised if one day it changes in a way you dont like

I personally don't think it's necessarily boring or anything, just that the songs these days don't leave a deep enough impression on you, that you are always out to find another new track to get into.
I'm sure most memorable, and famous tracks in hardcore or happy hardcore are what we consider anthems, such as shooting star, elysium, heart of gold, even slightly more updated stuff like angel eyes and fly with you. there is serious lack of anthem-quality tracks out there.
that's y i think people feel that the older stuff is better, and why the newer stuff can seem boring. i personally like both, but there are very few tracks that i'm seriously getting into. right now, tho, I am obsessed with that "No Barriers" track from the CLSM album download. i just listen to it over and over again, and people stare at me funny when i sing/rap/whatever to it.

I've been listening to alot of early 90's Hardcore at the moment. As i really have not got the taste buds for the current state of hardcore.
I find the releases coming out at the moment very disappointing except from the odd 1 or 2 releases but we've seen the tracks all before.
The new 'Pure Hardcore' release is another i feel dis-satisfied about. From 1st looks i think 'Oh, theres another fit bird on the cover'.
