The UK's Labour govenment wanted to cut prison sentences thinking that other measures should be tried! Tony Blair said that they where going to get though on crime & all causes of crime, yet what the **** has happened? Ten years ago would have been alot safer than now, yer where thugs on the street but im sure you where less likely to get beaten to death for no reason!
The govenment think that letting people out of prison early will 'help them' but all it does is let them know that it is ok to attack people because they will get away with it! Even more so if they had 'probems' in their life! What about the victems though? Do they not have problems?
Lets not give any more money to prisons for Playstations & Netendo Wiis & spend more on victem support groups & police on the street to stop crime before they happen!
I don't feel safe in my own counrty & will not be voting Labour in the next election (for many other reasons) 
Who ever promises to lock these yobs up for a long time will get my vote in the next election! Labour would rather give them free holidays! It seems Labour think that every yob is from a porr background & their parents can't afford holidays which is why they 'act that way' so they let them go to camps! Cool! Im not going to take my kids away & then tell them to commit a crime so they get to spend a week in the sun without me paying! 
Also I think we should bring back stop & search & if the police find a knife or gun or even drugs then lock them up! Letting them get away with it will mean they can buy another knife & attack someone! If people moan about prisons being 'too full' then I have thought of an idea I bet the govenment havn't thought of: BUILD MORE OF THEM!
Im sure we all have our own ideas & opinions but these are mine, you might not agree but all in all the last ten years has been a joke for the UK & I belive all the rain we have had this year is a punishment lol!
I belive Britian will thrive again in the 2010s once this ressesion is over & by then I hope someone new will be in power!  Im going to toss a coin between Tory or Lib Dem!
Im proud to be British & won't give up on us! There is always hope!

Smoogie, you're just getting swept up in media sensationalism. The UK isn't any more dangerous now than is has been in the past, not in your life time anyway. Knife crime has been going down for years, youth deaths just seem to be the papers new fad. And the government are right, we do need new programs, sticking kids in prison achieves nothing apart from ****ing up their lives and making them into worse no hoper's than when they went in. What really needs to happen is parents need to pull their fingers out and raise their kids properly. People complain about the nanny state, but who's to blame when people turn to the government and police to sort out all their problems? If your kid's a little **** then sort him or her out, yes parenting isn't easy, but it's not supposed to be easy and never has been. Deal with it. Honestly, everything is being blown out proportion, if a few chavs are the worst social threat facing Britain then we're doing pretty well I'd say.

stick the 'ive got a knife/gun so im hard ****s' in the army put their skills to good use, the only way forward - prison is pointless as most spend their sentence in the gym and think they can take the world on even more when they get out

Bit of an insult to the people who join the army to make something of themselves really, but something along those lines would be much better than locking them up.
Bring back corporal punishment and national service i say!

I just want to say prison in genral DOES NOT WORK!!!
You come out alot bigger and with alot more fighting experiene which if your a violent offender just isnt good. And if your a tea leaf you learn so many other ways and means of stealing things. IMO it really doesent work.

Violent crime, rape, thefts etc etc have been on a very slow decrease over the last 2 decades. Nothing has changed other than the explosion in media sensationist reporting of it.
Had this conversation with my Nanna the other week were shes on about how she's now worried to go out because she's afraid to get mugged because it's happening everywhere. It's not.
Stop lapping up the media's attempt to get you scared and paranoid, it's just easier then for the government to pass bills that strip you of your human rights and libities.

I was very angry when I read that! The main reason though I think they should go to prison is so they are not on the streets (letting them loose means they know they can get away with it & commit more crimes)
The army sounds like a good idea, or these tough (but fair) training camps which teach disipline! See if they can handle that!
