The DJ is playing records OH NO!! Who will look after the mic??? I know we must have a mic controller LOL!! Who should we pick? I know how about the loudest gobbiest mate we've got...yahhh!!! They've never been any good at mixing so it will give the something to cling onto.
Hang on...won't they stand in front of the DJ, talk all over the best breaks, only respect their mates and try an pull all the girls by swearing to much....nahhh they'll have more respect than that won't they??
After all, its an important job being the mic controller. Switch on, switch off he shouldn't have any trouble with that. Well he seems pretty good at the on bit already shame about the off.
A Master or Mistress of Ceremonies or MC (sometimes spelled emcee), sometimes called a compère or an MJ for "microphone jockey," is the host of an official public or private staged event or other performance. The MC usually presents performers, speaks to the audience, and generally keeps the event moving. The MC sometimes also acts as the protocol officer during an official state function. Example..in Hardcore or raves regards to safety.
In the early 1970s, the term MC became associated with what would change to become known as the rapper in hip-hop / rap music and hardcore dance culture. Originally, the term was simply used as Master of Ceremonies. It's believed that the first musician to call himself an MC was Melle Mel from Grandmaster Flash and The Furious Five. Traditionally, an MC uses rhyming verses, whether pre-written or freestyled, to introduce and praise the DJ he or she works with, to hype up the crowd and add to the sound.

By rights MCs (as you know then) should be called DJs.
The phrase DJ (or Disc Jockey) comes from Reggae sound system where the guy on the mic would sing and rap over instrumental tracks. Ride his voice over the rhythm if you will - hence disc jockey.
But because some of these guys played the records as well, the term came to mean 'the guy whos plays the records' and MC came in from other sorts of events (you get MCs in boxing matches or variety shows for instance).
I know it sounds a bit daft, but it is true:

Despite what that wikipedia page says, the term came SOLELY from the reggae use and was applied (incorrectly) to guys who play records in clubs and/or on the radio
So as I said, MCs should be called DJs and DJs (as we know them) should be called 'Selectors'

Point taken and interesting with it. Never really thought about the DJ bit and its development.
I think whilst many MC's can be annoying, they do define Hardcore from the rest of the dance
scene. Also Hardcore would be poorer if we had not had them. I still strongly feel agencies should have a high quality standard on their mic boys. Poetry, rap and ability to add something to the style being played not just a excuse to bully a way onto the stage

MC stands for Master of the Core! These days though there are few MCs that live to such a standard! Come to B'mouth, we have chavcore! All they want is someone who mcs over the good bits! Fingaz MC is a real MC
though as are some of the other guys on this forum and we need
more people like them who have passion for what they do! I heard my mixes are shit but i say **** that, it is about passion, not skill, so give
me Fingaz MC anyday over MC Storm or
Wizzkid! It just happens that Fingaz has both
passion AND skill as do many other MCs! Lets bring back the originalp meaning to rave, the
passion! All i have is passion yet know one
wants to know!  My
next drink is to all the real MCs out there & the
best of luck to them!
