People like what they own because they bought it.

Mac computers are sexy but I hate apple fans, they think Steve Jobs is god when all he is doing is marketing / selling newer stuff to them every year in an effort for those fans to make their lives complete. Why do all the die hard Mac fans think their lives will be much better if they buy the latest apple product?

Apple's marketing is great, they made apple look cool, like your life will be 100 times better with apple... I want to punch those dorks dancing on the ipod ads... I know people with 5 or 6 ipods... I call them suckers to apple marketing. Again their products are sexy but I'm not paying 2500 dollars for something that is worth 250 dollars 1 year later because a new model came out.

Don't forget that you could buy a PC for a ton less and it have the same (or better) performance than the mac.

actually the way people talk about them....its the same as the way people talk about macs.

*edit to add this*
im not saying you personally and im not saying people shouldnt use the products, i use them. - i was just using those examples to illustrate a point - people do talk about these things and make the same type of arguements for people using they same product as they bought as they do for macs - and even go completly nuts if someone purchases or uses somthing other than what they do :)

((personally im a windows user))

I did actually look at macs when i bought my new computer. I could get a hell of a lot more for the cash with a pc so went with that.

The equivalent model of a Ford compared to the equivalent model of a BMW is cheaper.

The very high spec' version of that same Ford model is the same price as that basic BMW.

Why is that?

Does that make the very high spec' Ford a better car or do the 'extras' merely flatter to deceive?

As with most things in life, you only actually get what you pay for.

Exactly.

....and why is that?

Could it be that it accelerates better, brakes better, corners better, handles better, is built better, with higher quality components,

higher quality electronics and higher quality attention to detail and is therefore a better car.

Cars, Furniture, Boats, Mountain bikes, Computers....

You only get what you pay for. Only a fool believes otherwise.

That analogy doesn't work though, because the parts are effectively identical.

The *difference* is the O/S and available apps, and that should indeed come down to intended use and personal preference. So that's more in line w/ those "extras" you noted....

Build quality and performance don't enter into it, because for any given price you can assemble a faster and better "built" PC than a Mac. You can also more easily upgrade it, modify it, overclock it, and generally tailor it to your specific needs. It's definitely harder work to do that, though, so some people will be happier w/ the Mac. Which is fine.

The trick is to not say that Macs are faster because they aren't. Even MacWorld *repeatedly* has conceded this, with comparable apps.

CDJay

You pay so much more for a Mac BECAUSE its a mac... not because its better.

Consumers technically believe that price = quality so someone that doenst know anything about computers will probably buy a mac because its more expensive, therefore in their mind, must be better.

This is exactly the kind of people Apple are marketing towards with "premium pricing"

That doesn't mean its better, Ionosphere. I may have misinterpreted your post, though.

just being picky. the exception is in clothes. an item with exactly the same manufacturing and quality, can be say $30 for a pair of jeans. Put the name "billabong" or whatever on it and the price becomes $150-$200 or higher.

Out of curiosity, are you PC lovers actually saying you like vista? or are you all using pc's with XP on them

I think a lot of the extra is just for the name with no real justification for the price personally... I'm not saying Macs are bad in any way, but I think they're over priced. The good thing about them is you know what you're getting I guess.

I know my PC has good components and is well built because I've had a look at it. I chose most of the major components too and was fully aware what brands I was getting. I know you can get crappy PC's from places, that's why you have to be a bit more careful when you're buying one. I assure you my PC performs. I've tested it with multiple app's, games and music production and it's a beast. :)

I also intend on upgrading my machine when the times comes and not buying another new one! It extends the life of it nicely until a bigger jump in technology happens and it's worth just starting again from scratch.

I also like to play games when I get time and Macs aren't great for this as it seems bugger all come out on it. :(

Very jealous of Logic though. Had a go with it round a mates a few times and I must say it's very nice!
