Basically here at NSR Records I am considering released a CD Single (3 tracks)
So, is this something people would be interested in? or is it a waste of time?
Would you rather buy 3 MP3s for £3 but have the choice of which 1s you want
or buy a CD Single for £2.50 or £3 with 3 tracks on but u might not like one of them?

Tbh I would love it if CD singles were sold instead of mp3s! Can't stand buying mp3s but am forced to really.
I think you would have to be careful to try and stick to having stuff from the same genre and maybe even the same sub genre on each cd though. Some people just aren't very open minded and/or just mix one type of music.

Yeah, good idea this dreem because you can get people to open their minds better because they wont just buy what they like, they will have 3 different tracks to check out which IMO should be of very different styles!
In a way this MP3 era has sort of killed the Album era. It's like buying an album then only using one or 2 tracks. Tracks are best listened to in an album IMO & you can set a scene better & take the listener on a journey. I say go for it man!

In theory this would be nice. Thing is, if people don't like 1 or two of the tracks, they might just not bother buying it. Their money could be better spent on 3 downloads that they love.
The fact it is aimed at DJ's makes it very likely they will only want one style on it... It's amazing how many people mix only a certain sub-genre of a particular music.
Grouping similar tracks together on each CD makes more sense to me. I'm not saying knock out a load of the same old stuff, just that trying to sell a cd with one Bounce track, one Hardcore and one Gabber would be bad business sense taking all things into account.
I know you're just trying to get music heard and not trying to rake a profit but... You wouldn't show Strapon Girls 11 at a feminist meeting if ya catch me drift.

I dunno, downloads are such a ripoff
They cost 1,50-2,50 pounds for hardcore. That's ridiculous - it's the same price as a record (considering a record comes with two tracks!).
I mean, I still buy everything that doesn't come out on vinyl but it's hardly a significant saving when I get an mp3. And it has ZERO resale value and I have NOTHING to show for it.
I'll take a CD or record over an mp3 any day. I play 50% CDs in my live sets now...I used to be 95% vinyl just two years ago, so I can't deny that mp3s are taking over - but I think hardcore mp3s are wayyy overpriced.
Go on beatport and look at house/trance mp3s - they cost half as much!

I agree 100%.
MP3's cost way to much, and what do you have to show for it? An icon on my computer screen.
I would much rather have a CD, whether on the basis of having it different styles or having it all the same I'm not sure. I would say have maybe one different, two the same style? It's hard to say I like all kinds, so it doesn't really affect me if it's all the same or not.
Choose what you think would do better, but on CD :P

MP3s are expensive (which is why we sell ours for £1)
I am definately going to look into bringing out a CD single early next year with a full length album later in the year.
Ill get some quotes for a cd single and will obviously post here first if plans are cemented

Most people will rip the tracks they want from a CD onto their computer along with MP3s
....but
if the hard drive goes tits up or something, all that lovely music is already backed-up
on nice shiny CDs.
As for a variety of styles on a CD I agree with the Bulbz, keep them similar as, imo, most people's taste is fairly narrow.
Don't forget. You're running a record label, not preaching to the unenlightened.
