Anyone found a good guide (or fancy writing one ;)) to get this sort of sound?

I can make a good 303 that would be good for other styles but it just doesn't sit well in the mix with the big leads and everything else going on in a hardcore track. :(

I don't have a problem getting the sounds as I use Beast or Claw - probably not the best vst's for the job but they do me. The problem I have is writing the riffs. I just can't seem to work it out

Must admit I've never managed to get a sample to work well with this sorta sound.. Something best left in a synth for ease if nothing else. Tbh I don't really like using samples for anything other than drums and maybe the odd off beat bass.

Yeah, I mean an acid line. :P

Yeah, I know what to automate. Just doesn't sound right and sit nicely in the track. Think I need to program a better base sound tbh... Been trying for hours though and no luck. :(

Don't have these anymore. Used to have them ages ago. Don't think I'd get a better sound out of them than anything else I've tried tbh (Sylenth 1 and fruity 404 thingy). Maybe I'm being a bit fussy. :P I've read about several other plugins that're supposed to be "all about acid" but don't have money spare right now!

I tend to work out the notes I want to play it on by building it round the main riff. Seems to work for me.

I'm interested in SilverBox. I'm going to see if I can get a demo of it to see what i sounds like compared to Claw (which I'm using at the moment). I've also downloaded a free vst called Screamer but I've not tried it yet - not holding my breath though.

I've just tried the demo of SilverBox and it sounds amazing. Can't wait to start messing around with this one

Kev willow has a tutorial on youtube on how to make 303 sounds, pretty helpful imo, you could probly morph it into working with other vst's i guess

Add me on MSN: [email protected]

Although let me begin by saying that your using synths that are either SHIT or aren't even capable of proper 303 sounds.

I use audiorealism bassline. It's the best 303 VST IMO - sounds just like hardware.

1) use settings similar to those in this screenshot (play around and customize to suit):
http://img374.imageshack.us/my.php?image=acidarzz9.gif
2) stick blood overdrive on it
3) stick panomatic and delay on it

that's how you get the 'sound'

the hardest thing is writing the riffs... I can explain some other day when it's not 7am on a Saturday...

I remember Kevin Energy talking on the Nu Energy forums about how he would look for a good ABL preset acid line, then build the track around that. Personally, I think that building tracks around an acid line can turn out really well, as can tracks built around a synthline with an acid line programmed over it.

Well, at least it worked for me :P

Wow, lots of replies since I last logged on. Cheers all.

Mortis - I'll have to check SilverBox out! Not heard of it yet but sounds interesting. Will try out that demo.

MJ - Nice one mate. Will check out those plugins and the sample when I get in tonight.

Mitchy - Have tried the KW tutorial but it's not really the sort of sound I'm wanting.

Shades - Thanks, Will take a look!

Matt - Nice one I'll add you tonight. 404 = shit, Sylenth 1 = not really capable I'm guessing from what I've learned by trial and error. ;P

Dain-Ja - Nice one. Will check that out later. :)

Nav - Interesting. Might have to try and dig up the topic.

Thanks again everyone. Got lost of tips from the Ionosphere crew too so I've got plenty of ammo for another go at this tonight. Hopefully get somewhere this time. 8-)
