Just listening to DJ Seduction (meets) Billy 'Daniel' Bunter- Hop on the Dance Floor which I forgot I hadn't put onto my PC yet (I always put tracks I like onto my I-pod) I have noticed that this track is shorter than on Helter Skelter Hardcore classics which for some bazare reason left bits of the track out!

Anyone know why they sometimes do this?

Maybe because they wanna add an unnecessary amount of tracks (*cough* Bonkers 17 CD1 *cough*) so they cut them short... Makes them less enjoyable. I get into tracks on CD1 of Bonkers 17, then they end in a snap. So irritating!

^^^ There I noticed that as well. Best of Bonkers was just as bad on the Sharkey & Druidf mix & ruined what could have been a really good mix! At the the Hixxy & Re-con mix was (suprisingly) very good what with the Ruffneck classics thrown into the end! It so happens that I am playing Lockjaw- Reactor right now!

Now that is a tune, love it!

I didn't get into CD2 on Best of... CD1 was the best and had normal length on the tracks!

its so they can fit the amount of tracks they want onto a cd and no it doesnt have to be alot.
also its easier to mix some of the tunes half way through rather than at the end of each individual tune

Then saying that, I have heard Lockjaw- Deep in the underground on a Thunderdome CD & it was slightly longer, just a bit more of an outro rather than main rift!

The top DJs in most Hardcore derived scenes (Happy Hardcore, D&B, Hardcore Breaks etc) often do quick mixes to keep the crowd going with something new coming in every couple of minutes. Sometimes they'll mix in the intro, play the first breakdown then mix out straight afterwards.

On unmixed compilations its purely to get more tracks in.

I think I've got like nearly the same problem; the track is 4:19 long but does only play for like 3:30 although there is more music on it. Can skip the part where it changes, and then it plays like normal..

the whole point in a mixed compilation is NOT to have full tracks

There's a few reasons to edit tracks to make them shorter. I personally do it ALOT.

Sometimes...
1) Tracks have parts the DJ doesn't like and doesn't want to play. I edit those out.
2) Tracks are too long (for example, sometimes the second breakdown and/or part after the second breakdown is the exact same as the first. Lame!)
3) Tracks go nowhere (sortof like 2)
4) The DJ wants to mix out earlier and the track isn't structured in a way that allows for it to be done in a musically correct manner
5) The DJ wants to fit more tracks in his set

You seem to think #5 is a bad thing. On a compilation like Bonkers, it gives more artists more exposure. I don't want to buy a CD with 10 tracks on it. I want a showcase of the state hardcore is in right now, and that takes at least 25 tracks/CD.

I get bored listening to an entire track anyways. The people mixing these compilations are supposed to be world class DJs - if they're just mixing outro to intro then they're no better (actually, they're worse) than the lamest local club DJs. I want some creativity - overlays, quick mixing and such. Sometimes that requires edits.

Bonkers 17 was awesome. Except the Scott Brown mix, that was brutal (as usual).

bonkers 17 was good. it flowed very nicely through countless tracks. in fact, it would play and you almost didnt even notice the track had changed. whilst i like a full track, mixed tracks are better. you get to hear mixing which is simply insane - like on bonkers 12, 13 and 14, parts of the next song were mixed into choruses of the current one and it sounds brilliant. the elimination of the two lead tunes came as a disappointment to me for bonkers 17. but im not going to argue with how dj's like to roll.
