i am a student, and i'm wondering what the difference is between the full version and this academic essential version is.
it seems so cheap.

The essential version is a somewhat stripped down version of Cubase 4, though don't let that put you off.I used to run cubase LE rewired with reason and was very pleased with the results, which makes me conclude that you could only get better results with essential.
for comparison between the other versions of cubase here's the chart at steinbergusers.com
http://www.steinbergusers.com/cubase/compchart2.php apparently fom what I see, the academic version is the same as the "full" essential version. Just differently priced for students?

I currnetly run reason 4 and am wondering how you go about this rewire with cubase? once you get them rewired. can you make the track on the reason sequencer and use VST's on the channels to run the sounds? is this the way it works.

you can still sequence on the reason sequencer if you want but I prefer using Cubase's. you can't control vst's through the reason sequencer though. When rewire is running the main mixer will be cubase's in which you add the rewired channels like you would a vst instrument. in the end Reason would be used pretty much like a vst within cubase.

the M-Audios look nice. specially those axioms though they seem fit for live PA's more than anything. I use a yamaha prs-195 which is more of a noobs keyboard but it has midi in and out which serves the purpouse almost completly except for the lack of velocity in the keys and no pretty knobs to turn.... well, maybe the volume :P
