Nobody tried to stop Hardcore. Around 1998 the music was getting sillier and sillier many people just got bored of it and walked away from the scene. 1999-01 were the years where Hardcore was 'in the wildernes' but some producers stayed with it and started to get back to basics. The music was never going to totally go away - it just needed a kick up the arse.
People blame the criminal justice act for trying to ban raves and all sorts of things but i'm pretty sure the government weren't the ones producing shite tunes!

I think he means the intro to Hixxy's Bonkers 11 (?)...

I wouldn't say in 1998 the music was getting sillier at all! it just got stale! Hardcore producers had not many new ideas and the crowd from earlier moved on! like you said a few stuck with it and now are back on top, but its because all music especially dance, goes in cycles with the youngsters! once something gets to popular they look for new sounds! that's why I think hardance is trying to get closer to hardcore in the last couple of years! Its not as popular as it used to be!

Mortis, your thinking of Hixxy's intro on Bonkers X
Around 98-99 (dont remember the year) a somewhat popular music magazine hade printed that Hardcore was dead. Hixxy's intro was referring to "them" as the mass media, mainstream if you choose.
Then hardcore adopted the 4/4 kicks and bass stabs, and was re-released to the masses using the same name but different sound.

The problem now is that we have people who think 'Hardcore' is just a load of commericial shite, as seen on Clubland (i.e. The Guardian Newspaper), meaning that more and more people misinterpret what Hardcore really is, and more and more undesirable attention is drawn towards the scene from undersirable eyes.

Mate, some of those tunes were bordering on ridiculous! It took the near death of the scene for people to realise just how much damage the hardcore by numbers "insert witty sample or tv theme here" tunes had done. Even the drugged up, dance to anything brigade turned their noses up eventually!
And yes, i know music goes in cycles - but there was plenty of mileage left in Hardcore if it had been handled properly at the time.

Who are you talking to? Me? If that's the case, then you'll understand that when I joined the site, I was 12, and I wanted people to care, I wasn't deprived of a voice. And neither should anyone else.
