While some of you where listening to Bonkers 5 & saying how Hardcore was as good as two years earlier most kids where getting yo yos! Where I like (Poole, Dorset) Secondary school starts a year later in year 8 (aged 12-13) so I was lucky enough to spend year 7 in middle school still!

I remember coming back after the summer & seeing a few girls with yo yos but didn't think much of it. It started to take on & soon acroos the play ground where yo yos! This must have been the case across Britian (and maybe further?)

There where clutchs that made your yo yo spin or 'sleep' as I think it was called. X brains where capable of doing alot!

You had bug yo yos that light up & had bugs in them but wern't as powerful. There where others but I forgot the names of them!

At school there was an assembly put on to showcase yo yos & people did tricks & pleaded with the head not to get them banned like every other phase had been (Pogs in 1995, Go gos in 1996 & the yearly football stickers)

The phase ended & was not even thought of by the time I went to secondary school in 1999 which began a very dark era! Yo yos where the last enjoyable phase of my childhood (apart from computer games)

Who else remembers this phase?

Yea, here Coca Cole (also Fanta and Sprite) Professional's were the best ones. Nobody really used any others.

I thought it was only us scots that had that phase! Its amazing how phase's travel around the UK!

We had a yo yo up here called 'The Tornado' & this little fella could do all the tricks! Rub a little butter into the middle & you were good to go!

* Walk the Dog
* Scotland Flag
* The Swing

to name a few!

BRING BACK THE YO YO! BRING BACK THE YO YO!

^^^ It was very big down south & like I said, was all over our playground. I remember seeing some in Grange Hill by the extras so the phase was still big when the filmed that series. It must have gone out around early 1999ish. I remember going to a toy store in London which ,ust have been November 98, might be Hamleys (or maybe Gamleys)

Im sure it will be back again sometime. Was big in the 80s for a bit I think. I had one in my cracker which reminded me of them lol

I remember collecting all those soft drink ones way back in around 1990 or something. Got quite good with a yo-yo then got bored. Probably still have them in the loft at my parents.

thats weird. i was somewhere between year 2 and year 4 - 8 to 10 (96 to 98), when they took off out where i am - which isnt far from you =P brains were always one of the best, and there were some other good ones which i cant remember.

straight after that was the yo-ho diablo's which were pretty sick. those got banned. suprisingly i dont think the yoyo's did at my school. lucky
