can anyone please tell me how you get bass to sweep up or down in pitch without just going up or down a note on the piano roll. like for example basslines in drum and bass etc.

i use flstudio and cubase not very well!!

This should apply in most synths. to be accurate I'm using a Thor in reason.
look for some sort of switch that says "legato" (If I'm not mistaken this means "joined" in Italian). In Thor there's an option that says "mono legato" and "mono retrig" which means that in the first option the attack will only sound on the first key pressed. In retrig there there will be attack in the sound when another note is pressed/retriggered. Set this to "mono legato" 'cuz we only want one note to be sounding to get the glide effect. now there's another paramater you should look for: portamento. There should be some adjustment knob with which you'll be adjusting the speed with which each note will "glide" from one to the other in legato mode. That, with a sub bass type sound should give you what you're looking after. Try it and let me know how it goes.

in fruity loops in the piano roll there is a little wedge shaped thing in the left hand corner..

click on this and then draw a key as you would do normally.. the key should have the little wedge on it.

you get this note and place it on the note you want the other key to slide down to. you then get the existing 'normal' note and make it so it covers both the area you want taht note to be played + the wedge note.

it should swoop down.. its called slide
