i'm smart enough to handle the non-basic version of whatever story you're about to tell me, and when someone asks a question like "how many courses are you taking?" and then they get the reply, "5 i guess"... well, don't guess and be sure, you either are or you aren't. it's not hard. also, when people say things like "i could care less", because the expression is actually "couldn't care less"
also when people misuse words like unthaw, or irregardless.
basically
reminds me of this episode of Jeremy Kyle listen to the toff in it

Do you hate it because you thought they were talking about bass? hahaha

Oh how I agree with you. I get that all the time.

An upward inflection in the voice that indicates that the speaker is asking a question,
a question that is unnecessary,
thus implying that the listener doesn't understand and is therefore, stupid.
It's extremely patronising and is most noticeable in Australians.
....above quotee excepted.

The best comeback is "my mums dead". The look of horror in their face is usually priceless, then come the stuttering apologies.
I know it's not really a phrase or saying, but the work "legend" is annoying me because of it's constant over use, especially when alcohol is involved.

"all the way" is another one that i think is stupid.
if you have to say somthing eg Canon, for digital photography or Trance for music, followed by "all the way" then my ears just close up.
Trance all the way? PS2 all the way? sony all the way?
Xbox360 all the way ...but **** microsoft all the way?
all the way = wont be moved, even with reason, and probably doesnt even have good reasons for believing what they believe..its just they're fanboys of whatever it is they are "all the way"ing about. Sheep.

No i knew what you meant about the upward inflection representing a verbal question mark - how the pitch of your voice rises at the end of a question - i was saying i don't get it because i live in Australia and havent experienced any of these...

"apples and oranges"
Drives me mad, as they quite obviously CAN be compared, and more easily than most things...

I don't mean the phrases, just the verbal .
Mind you, Aussies aren't the only ones that do it. Poncey pretentious Brits do it but it is a noticeably Oz trait.
