do u mean who discovered america? well it wasn't y'all. it wasn't even christopher columbus, and he was spanish or portuguese can't remember which. technically tribes from Asia crossing the Bering Strait when it was actually land founded America. Which is the reason why we call them "Native" Americans. they are basically the only ones who aren't immigrants here!
That's me.
Had just enough in me to get money for my college.

Well, lets see how he does after all the hype he was given. My guess is that nothing will really change. People need to realise that politicians are complete wankers who will promise you the earth and deliver nothing. They're only intrested in themselves and the nice cushy salary that comes with the job. I'll believe they can bring "change" when I see it.
The amount of self righteous fawning over Obama in the media here was sickening. Everyone jumping on the bandwagon telling us how great it would be that America would have a black president etc. If race really is irrelevent, could someone please explain to me why it's great America have a black president?

One thing that pisses me off is how many people have convinced themselves that Obama is going to save the world. And when they realize he isn't, they're all disappointed and start ranting about how he's going to be an awful president. This doesn't automatically mean he's going to "be another Bush." He has already made it clear he intends to do quite a lot of repairing and janitor work. How he does this and how well it works out, I can't say.
Obama isn't going to whip out a magic wand, and fix everything with a simple flick. Nor is he going to release an army of helldæmons and burn the world down.

Word. The thing is people like e.g. Watson. (see few posts above) think that politics work so that you just switch the lights on or off. The truth is, change doesnt happen over night, especially when youre running a f-ing huge country. and you wount see a dramatic change (unless he starts another war or stuff like that), unless you sit back years from now, and start comparing (preferrably with factul statistics).

To prove the point. 'Cause until very recently in America, race was not irrelevant. And still isn't. If Obama got elected (contrary to popular Republican/nazi belief) it wasn't because he was black, but because people (including me) genuinely believe he will do the US good.
Besides Watson, maybe there's a reason (besides the racial one) everyone jumped on the bandwagon. Something like we tend to support the democrats over here, black or white. I sure as **** would rather die than vote republican. Had that one struck you?

I am aware of that.
The thing is, just how many times has "change" been promised from politicians? How many times has it been returned?
I feel sorry for people who put faith in politicians.

Why is race still not irrelevant? are you trying to imply that black people do not have equal status or rights in America? I'm aware of the history, the civil rights movement etc but a lot has changed since then. There were many people over here coming out with crap like "America needs a black president" etc. No, it doesn't, it needs a President who can govern effectively regardless of race like every other country in the world. If Obama is that man, then fine, but the constant references to his race were irritating.
I don't see why this should apply. I would heavilly doubt Americans jumping on bandwagons, ie "oh, I hope the UK don't vote in that awful Labour party again" etc. As you can probably guess, I hate people who jump on bandwagons for no apparent reason, more than likely because they gain some form of moral high ground from doing so.

How many times have you actually gone back and checked what the people you voted have done or tryed to do? You didnt vote in the entire Parliament of the United Kingdom, so stop pretending you did.

Such as governments proclaiming there would be no more war with Germany? Gordon Brown promising strict rules on borrowing? Labour pledging not to increase taxes at the top or bottom level?
Oddly enough, we did go to war with Germany again, Britain's borrowing is enormous and Labour have scrapped the 10p bottom rate and put up taxes at the top to 45% to pay for their economic mishandling.
I'm aware I didn't vote in Chamberlain, but it's a good example of politicians not sticking to pledges.
