depends on if you actually play out in front of people. you'll be the guy that burns out the dancefloor for the next guy. rave timeslots aren't all about you, you have to share it with typically 7 other djs and not to mention that people are expected to dance to the music that you are playing. people get tired, and music that is recorded at 168 to 175 sounds like shit when you push it nearly 20bpms faster than it's intended range.

i'm a hyper kid, so 190 bpm is what i feel comfortable listening to, but if the mix isnt just for personal listening, i put it at 180 or 185.
for live sets, i would definitely rock it at 180.

Anything over 180 sounds like shit. I like to stay around 175-177. Sometimes I'll start at 170 and work my way up to 180 towards the end of the set.

180bpm is proper Hardcore speed imo. When in the mood 200bpm can be good too, anything faster than that starts to sound silly.

Random, I know, but I can not listen to Kurt`s remix of There For Me by Michael Mansion without speeding it up. It is just WAY to slow as is.
And also, I don`t get how people view Splitter and Speedcore as music. I don`t really like trance or techno, but I can see the talent needed to make it. I detest country, but I can see how it takes talent to sing and play country music. I just do not see how Splittercore is considered music...
I only started producing a few months ago, and I can literally create a full blown Splittercore track that sounds exactly like the stuff I hear on youtube; and I`m still learning how to produce hardcore...

hahahaha do you even know what your talking about?
Yes thanks as I've probably been into hardcore longer than you.
No doubt there are people who prefer dancing to the higher tempo but overall IMHO it alienates more people than it attracts. Also from a DJ set point of view running at 180bpm+ can reduce track selection options. There are a lot of tracks using already pitched up vocals so playing them at +5/6 just goes too far but heys thats just my opinion. I still prefer the 160-165bpm tunes of '93-'95 where the energy came from breakbeats rather than just playing everything too fast.
not really, +6 is just a semitone higher
hardly a big deal
on CDJs you can use master tempo lock to avoid any of that anyways
and music generally sounds better pitched up rather than down, so it's not exactly hard to enjoy music played faster

165-180 max is good hardcore speed imo..
hardcore is about the sound as well as the speed imo..
you can have a tune playing at 165bpm and then play one at 175bpm
but the one playing at 165 sounds harder than the one at 175bpm
thats kind of what i dont like about some uk hardcore
just because its fast doesn`t make it hardcore...well for me anyway
i think there are some really pop/cheesy tunes that get classed as hardcore that shoudn`t
just because they are 175bpm
but when i listen to some of them i fail to hear anything "HARD" about them
so for me its speed and how it sounds..

I usually mix quite slow, around the 165-170 mark. For me, 190 is too fast

That's a good point too. When you're playing out there's TONS more factors to consider. You won't play at 185 at 6AM. You won't play at 185 before the headliner. Etc.

nah man i strongly disagree that you wouldnt play at 185 at 6am. why the **** not?!
a pumping & fast paced set to finish a night off is ****in ace man! to send the night off with a 'bang'! if people are tired between 5 & 6 then they clearly arent hardcore, cant bleak out on the last set. *tuts*

Do you play out often? :P
I'm not saying it can NEVER work. I'm saying more often than not, you won't do that. If it's the last set of the night MAYBE you could get away with it, but raves here usually go till 8-9AM.

well i go out to raves a fair bit as a raver, and they usually finish about 6 and the last set is nearly always one of the faster paced, harder edged sets of the night tbh
well obviously not always but i find the best nights are the ones that are like this

I've done that one time tbh. At this party I was booked to play 5-6AM so I was probably at 180BPM but playing a few breakdown heavy tunes to give the crowd a breather. The DJ that was supposed to play after me didn't show up so I went till 7AM. I still had about 300 people in that room at 7AM, dancing to 180BPM or so (actually, I might've dropped down to 178 or so by then). Obviously I was giving them some singalongs so they wouldn't die though ;)
But I've rarely seen really fast sets work in the morning apart from the few gurnmonkeys that are still really ****ed up. I knew it would work there because everyone was still going nuts but generally people are too tired to dance that fast by 6AM.
