What are some good sample packs you would recommend? I'm mainly looking for breakbeats, big beats, drums, claps, etc.
Not too expensive now (over $30 USD)... I'm a poor boy.
And as a side question. Does sampling and/or using items from samples packs completely undermine the production process? I know that say, making a majority of a tune (or worse, the whole tune) out of samples is usually just downright lazy but, well you get the question?

:: Well, to be honest, i've just acquired the free ones i could find and got some other little ones, but i always resample, re eq etc. my percussion and i re sample them to my liking. and to make the samples cleaner and more unique. I dont know a good recommendation but to start off i guess Vengeance are a good collection. They're very high quality samples, although theyre extremely cliche. It doesnt make your work sound very original. I dont use them myself.

:: Well.. In MY opinion.. using sampled synth (bass, leads, etc..) is kinda lazy and a bad bad habit.. and is to be honest, just a bad way to go about production.. Me as a producer i never ever use sampled leads (not even virus rips)... sometimes i might use nexus to layer a bit but generally i produce my own leads... same with bass, and im also making my own fx now.. I know what u mean, its good to start off sampling etc.. but when you get more serious about production its also when u should get more serious about the synthesis and engineering sub category.. try out making leads... etc..

I have found quite a few free samples, but I can never find any of the ones I'm aiming for, mainly in regards to claps, drums, and breakbeats.

I always avoid using sampled synths. Yeah, it's just a big no no.

If you can't make a sound yourself then I don't see the problem with using a sample (although it is lasier). Creating your own sounds will give more flexibility and sound more original. But its more important what you do with the sounds than how you made them.
