the Tommy Hilfiger racist scandal comes to mind
back in the mid 90s people started hearing rumors that Tommy Hilfiger came on the Oprah Winfrey show and he supposedly said "If he would have known that minorities were going to wear my clothes, then I would not have made it so nice looking". They said that Oprah immediately kicked him off the show. What is crazy is that everybody said that they knew "somebody" who saw it on television, but yet you will never find a person who actually did see it on television. Crazy stuff happened such as boycotting the product, bonfires of his clothes, etc. But it is not true.
Tommy Hilfiger was never on the show and Oprah has stated it once after the scandal happened. She finally had Tommy Hilfiger on the show discussing the situation and she again stated that this is the first time she has ever had him on her show. And that part is true because I actually saw that episode. He said he spent millions of dollars to find out where the rumor could have started and it was somewhere on a college campus in the middle of nowhere.
and also for those of you who remember his clothes at the peak of popularity and the rest of the urbanware (Enyce, Ecko, Rocawear, Sean John, etc) they have very similar features such as bagginess and huge logo advertisement. so if anything, he actually catered to the minorities rather than deter them from buying them.

We really are a bunch of sheep! You would think people would want some evidence but no, lets just gather up our TH gear that we've paid hundreds for & burn it!

well the problem with the evidence part is that it was in the news! so not even the head news ppl did their research! and back in the 90s no one really questioned the content of the news as much as they do now. which is why quality of the news these days is diminshed and it is always biased.

there is less caffine in a cup or tea, compared to a cup of coffee
http://www.stashtea.com/caffeine.htm people miss quote facts on this one. just because a leaf or tea has more caffine in it than a bean of coffee, makes no difference to the end result because of the way its prepared :)

To quote Mr. Twain, a lie can travel halfway around the world while the truth is still putting on it's shoes.

ive only seen a few episodes off it, didnt see the tea one - and ive actually heard them get facts wrong before, and sat there and looked it up whilst they're talking about it
usually its about facts from other countrys that they are making fun of that they get wrong

What facts like? They have made a few mistakes but they've always corrected them in later episodes and series.

well seeing as i havent seen many episodes, i couldnt tell you weather they corrected them in later serieieieieiesssss lol
and it wasnt the actual questions that were being asked, it was just random bits and pieces that guests brought to the show i seem to remember
looking back on it, im pretty sure it had something to do with them claiming that it was a fact that the US military had lost dolphins that were armed and ready to kill during katrina, when in fact it was never prooved and the sources claiming it were all dodgy journalistic sources..
but like i said, it wasnt to do with the actual question - it was somthing brought up in jest and carried off as fact
then there was somthing to do with a buget that was apparently passed that never was...
if i remember the exact thing it was, i will post it

I remember a guest mentioning something about the US miltary training dolphins and when they set them loose on a trial excercise they buggered off and never returned. Like you say it was a guest that said it. They did it to Dara O'Briain. In an episode he recieved points for stating the triple point of water being able to exist as a solid, liquid and gas as 0 degrees. People wrote in and said that is no longer the case, it was recently changed to 0.01 degrees so they then removed points from him seasons later.
Still a great show to watch. Not much intellectual stuff on TV anymore.
