Now this is a long shot..

im stuck on a problem in some maths work im doing for my a-level..

6. Find the maximum point of the differentiation curve y = x^3 + px^2 + q when the minimum point is (4,-11).

all i know is that the dy/dx = 3x^2 + 2px

should i use the quadratic equation? (-b +/- sqr b^2 - 4ac)/2a?

and yes this is a real question..
if someone could help i would be very happy !

happyhardcore.com is not a good place to ask this.

don't you have a math tutor or someone you can see at your school?
i can do this shit if i tried, but i loaaaathe math.
i'd rather just pay some asian to do it for me (in regards to any math i'll have to do, financially, in the future)

I'm going to assume that hopefully that's some college level math...

And yeah, you might want to ask elsewhere. :s

ok. i havnt done maths in over a year.
im not sure what it means by differentiation curve.

however, run dy/dx through quadratic equation. If you get four as one of your results (if my thinking is correct it should be the largest result), hopefully we are on the right track. sub in 4 as x into your dy/dx equation, and find p, then find q. then sub the other value of x (from the quadratic) into your main equation to give the y of the point.

at Rayovac: Its pretty standard maths, nothing really special. In Aus would probably be year 11 question

It would be a lot easier for you to comprehend if you had a teacher go over it with you, just one of them things that looks like a foreign language if you have never delt with it before lol

Same here, even worse than physics for me.

dont know how they criteria levels over there, but this is really quite a simple question (i think - assuming the answer i gave was right). its (easy) calculus with some graphing thrown in. as i said, a standard year 11 (out of 12) question.

physics is my best subject, followed by maths.
