What are you prefered ways of cleaning your vinyls and styli?
I'm wondering which is more worth-while. Buying a brush for the vinyls and a brush for the styli, or chemicals... or is there something else that they don't want us to know that is just as effective?

I've only had to clean my vinyl collection in the past once. My dad let me borrow his Knitty Gritty vinyl cleaner. It worked perfectly as I recall.

I tend to use pva glue to clean my vinyl. Spread it on, leave over night, peel off.

you can also use lighter fluid. the song isn't going to wash off, and it is just vinyl afterall.
*edited to add*
you can use "zippo" lighter fluid, or any off brand of that type of lighter fluid for that matter.

using your shirt doesn't get the dirt and hand oils out of the lines of the record though, and could produce surface pops and scratches

Forgot fluid, water is fine, you are only washing off dust and wear from the grooves. Put the entire thing under your tap minus the label and your good to go.

Actually, tap water (and most water) has alot of minerals...and it'll leave mineral deposits on your vinyl.
If you're going to use water, you should use distilled water since it has no dissolved minerals. Also add a few drops of wetting solution - this will help dislodge the dirt.
I have a Stanton vinyl cleaning kit with a velvet brush which wroks pretty well (and comes with cleaning solution).

Where do you get your info Dain-Ja? tap water is totally fine, it's not going to rot your vinyl nor leave "minerals" on it. You can see with your naked eye dust but you don't see minerals in water, the cartridge wont be affected playing with excess "minerals".

The minerals build in the record groove. Same way it does in refrigerated water dispensers, etc. Just cause you can't see it with the naked eye doesn't mean it's not there.
I know this because when I was really into vinyl I'd read up on cleaning it on audiophile sites.
But I did a quick google to confirm:
http://www.discomusic.com/101-more/6193_0_7_0_C/ "Try not to use tap water to clean your records. Instead use distilled water, which can be easily found in your supermarket or drugstore." http://members.tripod.com/~Vinylville/clean-2.html "and filtered or distilled water (again, fewer impurities)" http://www.tnt-audio.com/clinica/fluids.html "After washing the record with one of these fluids it is wise to rinse it with pure distilled water." http://www.howtocleanstuff.net/things/stuff/how-to-clean-vinyl-records/ "Be wary of using homemade solutions since they are not made with the purest of ingredients, which is necessary for cleaning delicate records. Martha Stewart’s Homekeeping Handbook also suggests using distilled water." So yeah...
