@ Bulby: I think your best to use another name for breaks or any other genre for that matter. I produce Funky House aswell & go under the alias DJ Freddie Funk. It just saves confusion when people want to hear a certain style from you & get something completely different
Its also a great way to push boundaries, take risks & if it doesn't take off then you haven't lost the respect of you original alias

When I DJ happy tracks, I go under DJ Jay-Owen.
When I DJ dark tracks or when I DJ with Stevie, I go under 'Awe' as part of 'Shock and Awe' (Steve is Shock)

I could be wrong.
Nah.
Well maybe on occasion, but not now.

I personally would have a different name for a different style of music. So yeah i think an alias is a good idea.

I agree with ionosphere. The reason I use two names is cus I made up the second one for laughs and also that way I could make another myspace to fit more songs on the internet without calling the second one Näkkenboro 2 :P

Hmmm. Well I'm not really fussed about what people think of me making different genres but I think there would be some confusion for people if they listen to hardcore, search your name and all they find is load of Breaks tunes or vice versa.
From a DJ name point of view it could cause some confusion too. At most of the parties I play all genres of underground dance music are played so with my name as it is people don't know what I'm playing. Breaks and Hardcore being quite different this can be a bit of a problem!
I dunno. I know I'd prefer to just stick to one name really. :-/ Might cause just as much confusion people seeing the same person play under two different names. :P

Hey! did NO ONE read my response?
I said use two names so that you could let your music speak for itself and you wouldnt CARRY OVER any of the fame, recognition or fans that you had previously.
It's like starting anew. That's what i would do.

from a personal standpoint - any music im proud of - i would want to be under my name, no matter what style, if people wont listen because ive been known for making hardcore...or Chillout...thats their own problem - vinylgroover proved that i think.
i can see the benefits of going under another name as it in a way, would put me in a different frame of mind whilst i was writing that particular song
like at night when im the pizza boy...and theres a broken fridge...and shes wearing a bugs bunny suit...and..
wait what?

Don't be silly, no one listens to you. We just skim past your posts as if they weren't there. ;)
I certainly took it on board and will be keeping it in mind while I make a decision mate.

hmm.. this thread screams for one of my wise sentences...
the question is... why do we ask ourself these question that just calls more questions while the question is self explaining by questioning it.
*nods*

Andy, of course I read your post and always look forward to the next one but
your point that -

always applies anyway.
If people and their love of pigeon-holeing everything obscures their view of it then....
B*llocks! F*ck 'em!
....unless, as I pointed out, you want to make a career of it. (something we never seriously considered 'cos it's more than likely to spoil the fun of it all)
