I`m having a problem in Cubase 5 with VST`s and importing audio. Other than the standard Microsoft G Table Synth piano, non of the VSTs I`ve tried omit sound. It says they are working in the midi activity on the bar with pause, play etc. (sorry, I know I fail for the lack of vocab), but no sound comes out the speakers. This is happening with my drums and all other audio .

Cubase clearly recognizes that I`m using VSTs and audio files, but no sound is comig out my speakers. I never had this problem with SX3. Any help would be great.

Mhmm. And the little yellow/red/green bars still go up when I try to play notes just like they do with the stock VST, but no sound.

First, make sure you have the correct playback device selected. You can check this in Devices > Device Setup > VST Audiobay. If you have an audio interface (whether it's USB or FireWire), you can choose it here.

Next, you will want to make sure that your default output bus is actually assigned to a pair of outputs. You can check this by going to Devices > VST Connections > Output. Expand the output bus by clicking on the "+" sign and make sure it says it doesn't say "Not Connected".

Lastly, this is more of a user tip rather than a troubleshoot, but Cubase 4 integrated a new type of track called the Instrument Track which is also available in Cubase 5. It would be better to use this with VSTi's since you would be able to load a VSTi directly onto the track rather than load it in the VSTi window then creating a MIDI track to output it and then having to do all of the automation on another separate track. The instrument track will have all of that on a single track.
